Newton started the rest of the year if I'm not mistaken.

Mitchell was put back in against Arkansas and played the rest of the season. In the last 5 games of USC's season, Mitchell attempted about 140 passes and completed about 70% of them.

    Started:
    Mississippi State
    Georgia
    Florida
    Middle Tenn. State
    Clemson
    Houston

After the UGA game, Mitchell was benched for the Wofford Game because of the Offensive Line not giving him a lot of protection, and to give Syvelle some reps at QB. (MY OPINION) this was done as he was planning on using both guys like Florida used Tebow. . . .. But after the Wofford game, Blake hit the bouncer at the bar in 5 points, and then Spurrier suspended him for the next two games. Games in which Syvelle played very well. . . . I think CSpurrier saw that the offense ran better with a mobile QB in the lineup and decided to run with that as long as it was clicking

Arkansas played the perfect defense against Syvelle by doubling up on Sidney and playing very tight on the corners and DE's in order to contain Syvelle. . .It worked and Syvelle wasn't as mobile and couldn't get outside the pocket and made some poor decisions. . .. Blake came in the second half of that game (great call by Spurrier) and played lights out, and started the rest of the season and in the bowl game.

All that doesn't change the point he's been inconsistant, last year, this spring and in fall camp.

Inconsistent? He completed greater than 50% of his passes in every game he played last year except one (in which the team won by almost 40 points and he was taken out early). In 2005, he only had two games with under 50% completion percentage. His QB rating was 151 last year and 132 the previous year. Only twice last year did he throw more interceptions than touchdown passes. In 2005, again, he only did it twice. He had almost 9 yards per attempt last year. Only Jamarcus Russell had a better ypa than that among players with a lot of attempts. In 2005, he had a solid 7.5 yards per attempt.

The people who say he's no good are just wrong. They're wrong in ways that are rather easy to demonstrate if you only look at the statistics, and a close look at the statistics show it too. Yes, he played the occasional weak game, but so did everyone else in the league. JR played poorly against Florida in 2006. Ainge played poorly against Florida too, and against LSU (twice).

Do you people expect greatness every single time a guy takes the field? If he gives you "very good" most of the time but has the occasional bad game, does that mean he's "inconsistent"? No. It just means he's a QB in a tough league with tough competition in which EVERYONE struggles sometimes.

The inconsistent mantra isn't something I just pulled out of my arse, it's what his head coach has said for the last 2 years, and the last couple of weeks about their fall camp.

You keep pointing to stats...in this case they are like a drunk man leaning on a lamp post...more for leaning on than illumination.

Now, you want an accuracte description of Mitchell and South Carolina? Try this on for size...

Put the key of despair into the lock of apathy. Turn the knob of mediocrity slowly and open the gates of despondency - welcome to a day in Columbia.

Yes, your rhetoric has utterly trumped my hard evidence, as it must in any logical universe.

The one thing I've mentioned more than once but has yet to be addressed is the fact that Spurrier has said on more than one occasion that he's inconsistent. Your hard evidence is evidently missed by his own coach.

Who was the last QB Spurrier unconditionally praised? Have you ever heard of motivation? He also said, very recently, that Mitchell was a good QB. There's my response to your Spurrier citation.

Where's your response to the statistics?

In this thread...but, I'll leave with you another.

There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.

You mean like: Saban has won everywhere else he went, so he's gonna turn BAMA into a contender again?
