you're bringing up the fact most aren't aware. with the trend to playing 12 regular season games and 7 home games for many major schools, there's only so many OOC games to go around without being forced to schedule a patsy 1a and even hard to get a 1AA team. its become very difficult, not to mention when even just one backs out late, you're pretty much screwed.
the ncaa needs more regulating of schedules.. the sunbelts and wacs of the football world should be playing the d 1-aa teams.. allow them to schedule more and count them toward bowl consideration, freeing up the bcs conference teams to play each other.
the problem is they all want home games for money. no one wants to alternate with anyone except in certain situations. not enough home games to spread around since everyone is greedy. nor can the ncaa force lesser conferences to lose money playing crap teams.
That's right Tirk, and it has become necessary for all of the programs that do not get a penny form their institution like LSU to schedule as many homes games as possible due to Title Nine. LSU has to play all of their OOC games at home in an 11 game season in order to pay for all sports and stay in compliance with Title 9. In a 12 game season they will do a home and home but not with a program that only brings in 25-30,000 fans. Now many of the mid-majors can get a UCLA, a Miss. St, an Oregon, etc. to play a home and home as they aren't losing to much money when they do that. We aren't about to schedule a home and home with one of those programs, wouldn't even do it with Oregon St as they actually made more money coming to LSU than they would have made by playing a home game.
and that's exactly the reason Tulane was dropped because they don't understand their role in life. Please do not mention Title IX. Not many things represent the idiocy of the NCAA more than that. Not even the BCS.
