The change in the motion of the ball was very subtle. I can understand not changing the call. I think this should be something the league addresses, though, because there was a change in motion.
I didn't find it so subtle. From the down the field angle, the ball kicked up off the players hand, as it was bouncing past. Balls don't magically gain altitude after reaching peak height, but that is a different physics discussion about gravity. Sideways, up, change in rotation. Won't matter, because the SEC office will release a statement that indicates that their officials made the correct call, AGAIN. Its kinda like getting a child to admit that they lied about eating a cookie from the cookie jar when the lid is broken on the floor. Its tough to do. o:
Who actually picks the replay officials? If you have a link to some info on this, plz let me know. Also, what about camera angles? I've heard that the botched OU/Oregon call was due to a lack of camera angles in the replay booth (don't know this for sure). I've always been of the opinion that if CBS, ESPN, etc. can show you a slo-mo replay from multiple angles to viewers at home, those same views should be available to officials upstairs. Getting rid of instant replay is definitely throwing out the baby with the bathwater, IMHO. The system hasn't even been in place for two whole seasons yet (<1 for a couple of mid-majors), and works most of the time as intended. But if the NCAA is so lax on the choice of replay officials, this is something that needs to be fixed ASAP in the offseason.
