actually WVU is 17th in the country and 1 of only 22 NCAA Universities that profits from their athletics...Mizzou takes a loss and carries about less than 5% of the St.Louis and KC markets though...
KC Star is reporting Mizzou has an invite to SEC. I guess we'll see. KC Star: Missouri Has SEC Offer, But Might Wait to Accept - Team Speed Kills
I wasn't aware WVU athletics operated at a profit. I thought I remembered reading an article that stated the athletic program lost 2 million last year. Missouri adds academics. They'd be like Vanderbilt of the West. I'm curious if Missouri doesn't own the St. Louis market, what team does? Though I think a move to the SEC would increase their market.
What leads you to believe Missouri carries less than 5% of the St. Louis and KC Markets? Those numbers are shocking to me and not likely accurate. Take a look at this article yesterday in the NY Times. It goes into a lot of detail judging the size of almost every bowl subdivision school. With that being said, it doesn't look like WVU is as small as you might think. Those folks love their football.
Both Mizzou and WVU turn a profit with WVU making about $3,000,000 more the last time I saw numbers. Also, looking at these numbers the SEC needs to add TCU since it looks like the Big East is starting to fall apart.
