1. Oh well. Let's hang a devastating loss on them to make them feel better about not having to face SEC competition every year.
  2. The only problem I have with adding TCU is we're adding all West teams, meaning old rivalries will get ripped up when we have to move current west teams east.
  3. Yay! This is awesome news! Corndogs for everybody!!!
  4. I don't think Boone County has electricity. They won't find out until they get their weekly paper on Saturday.
  5. The St. Louis Cardinals.
  6. This is true, but adding TCU would be good for academic rating, since that apparently is becoming a big buzzword during this expansion talk. Fwiw, academic rating is kind of silly if you're outside of the Ivy League. What does it really matter? A person with a degree is ultimately a person with a degree, regardless of where it comes from, in most parts of the country. *The Northeast is probably a place where the school that issued the degree is more important.

  7. Realignment Chaos--WVU, Mizz, NC St, Louisville, Va Tech?

Let me just say, this chaos has got me riveted. With the Pac-12 No to UT/Ok yesterday night, it's as the world turns again today. Frankly the thread title made me read it... aren't we afterall playing WVU? Aren't they a top 20 CFS team? Aren't they a good NCAA hoops team? What's clear to everyone is these decisions are about landgrabbing TV markets, eyeballs, revenue and not so much about the student athlete it seems.

Now with TA&M though, and a SEC13 coming, it seems SEC now is a little bit out in front, like the Big East, in having to make a call. That really has made me think about these above schools. At first blush, Missouri made no sense from a sports tradition, rivalry perspective. But, sure enough, the numbers would seem to make up for a little bit of the odd geography and "midwest" perspective (although when I break out the map, sure enough, they are contiguous neighbors with SECW Arkansas). Decent basketball school and reasonably ok football school, and a new market. But, with the Big 12 clinging on for another arms locked koombaya, is Missouri likely staying put?

The logical next step is to add a TV market, state, without annoying a current school with another in-state rival (that excludes $$ choices like GA Tech, Clemson, Miami, TCU etc.). The most logical geographical move is one state north in North Carolina. NC State seems to be the only NC school that could potentially be pulled out of a conference (UNC and Wake are probably too wed to the ACC for various reasons), and would add reasonably good sports teams, but not necessary the eyeballs. Then, you go further north and you find yourself with WVU and Va Tech. While WVU is clearly in play b/c of the Big East shake up, you'd like to snatch up Va Tech. More eyeballs, and potentially better football school and academics. Again, all about the revenue here, as arguably, WVU has better overall sports programs--which made me surprised that SEC flat out rejected WVU... I wonder if they are going to find that this move bites them if they're out there hanging with 13.

Then you have Louisville.... well, they're in the discussion because again the Big East potential implosion. Now, the Big 12 is looking hard at Louisville as their 10th to replace A&M. Louisville doesn't make a lot of sense since we have UK, but again, reasonably ok football, good basketball, but far less eyeballs than both WVU and Missouri, arguably NC St.

Which brings us to a seemingly perilous situation of 13 or 14? Thirteen may be an unlucky number, although why dilute your conference with another "so so" market/team? I think the logical thing to do though is expand to 14 for balance, and to keep the wolves at bay as a "mid-super conference, just short of the 16 number. You make a hard run at VA Tech, then maybe NC State, talking up the big football jump they'd make, but you end up competing hard against the "stay in the solidified ACC" with Syracuse/Pitt joining. Frankly, though, to me, is will these schools make a move for football and $$s or loyalty? Seems like that is how it's playing out generally.

What's ironic is our path to 14 may lead us right back to WVU when it's all said and done....
  8. I wasn't aware the St. Louis Cardinals played College football. . . . . . . . . .
  9. Obviously. But St. Louis is a baseball town. That's what most of the eyeballs are watching this time of year.
  10. Sure but how often is Missouri playing when St. Louis is playing? Odds are that the large majority of the time the games won't cross each other.

The question isn't "Who do St. Louis people watch the most?" Because that's irrelevant to CFB. The question is "What team does St. Louis watch when they're looking at CFB?"

That's the market the SEC is going after.
