Those last two FTs from Erica White were clutch! It's sad they didn't mean much. Too little...too late.
Some of you have been buying the ESPN hype bragging on Candace Parker's "heart". She was talking smack to Fowles and Fowles freaking OWNED HER!! You won't hear about that though...only about Candace Parker. Fowles outplayed her all night long. Beating her to the goal, swatting her shots, and hitting more points. The fact is that every team knows that no one else on our team can shoot. Fowles is a GREAT player, and I will miss seeing her dominate with 3 or 4 people hanging off of her on every play. It doesn't matter how good your defense is...if you don't have anyone that can be a threat on the outside...your not going to get past the final four...EVER! Now I have to not watch ESPN for a week, because you won't hear anything about Fowles out playing Parker...just more bull crap about Parker being the greatest basketball player since Mike J. I'm done. This one hurt me guys...hurt me real deep. :bncry:
As great a game as Fowles had, there were way too many missed shots under the basket and of course the missed free throws. It is sad that Erica White didn't win this game for us in the end. She was a special player.
You cant trap with less than ten seconds because it gives them an easy inside shot. The best scenario is full court man. I would have fronted Parker and played the inbounder's defender in a center field type role behind her. That way they force someone else to bring it up. Most schools use a play sort of like this and put pressure on the ball as it goes down so schools cant get an easy layup and it runs time off the clock. You will rarely ever see a trap.
Fowles will be the best WNBA player ever. Book it. She is still a raw player, but if you guys remember who she was as a freshman and then compare it to who she is now, it's amazing. If she continues to improve at that clip, look out. not to mention, in the WNBA, she will be surrounded by other offensive players who can score a little, too. that's a luxury she never really had.
It will be interesting to see her play without being triple-teamed. We could have seen that tonight but our other four girls couldn't hit the side of a barn. That won't happen in the WNBA.
She takes serious beatings down low. I think it will lighten up in the NBA because a lot of the defense the college girls know is just to slap towards the ball.
Sylvia is not a great passer out of the post. Although that may have more to do with the offense we run. We just never seem to utilize Sylvia as a weapon to kick it out to the outside shooters. Well, maybe that's why....the lack of outside shooters. Carry on.
those are big words. i wish the best for big syl she'll be a great one in the WNBA but i'm not ready to give her that title just yet. i would love to see some of these ex LSU players on the same team together.
