If we want to talk about geaxing big and thinking out of the box... What do you think about Jack Del Rio? Deep Louisiana ties. Daughter graduated from LSU. Maintains a home in New Orleans. Already has a Super Bowl Ring. Young, funny, intense, defense-minded... I like the idea - you never know...
i have a question, why is everybody so down on butch davis, he took thug u and made it respectable, recruited the best group of talent in any 3 or 4 year span, for example how many of his recruits have been first round draft choices? 20? he can recruit the south east, and he knows nola- (ed reed) hes coached in big games and won them, florida st his last year, he beat spurrier in the sugar bowl that year he lost only 1 game, he built miami back up, i think he would do very well here, i m praying that saban decides to stay, but i dont think davis is that big of a drop off, man, nasa guy o'kefe and bertman have some huge shoes to fill if saban leaves
i hope bertman doesnt let saban pick his successor, cause we all know it will be jimbo and i want a proven head coach who has won at a big name school and won big name games, im sure jimbo would be a great HC, but i would much rather have a proven guy with experience
I like Mike Tice but I don't think he'd... make a good college coach. I don't think he's that great of an NFL coach. To me the Vikes have been underachievers with Tice. I think if Saban leaves, Butch Davis will be the next head coach at LSU. Do I know this for sure - definitely not - but there are a number of intangibles that surround Davis that makes me believe he'd be the next coach. That being said, I also think that Saban could just be talking with the Dolphins as so not to burn any bridges. It might also be wishful thinking, but I think we all know and expect Saban to leave for the NFL one day. And so as not to piss off any NFL owners or execs who might be hiring in the future he could be doing the obigatory thing and talking with them. I still don't think Saban is leaving LSU - not with Sabanville being built, Tiger Stadium expanding and the corps of players the Tigers have returning next year. It would seem odd to me to have worked so hard to get all the things in place that Saban has done to just leave without getting to enjoy some of it would strike me as odd. But it has happened before, so who knows. :geaux:
I'm not that's for sure.. I think Davis would be a great fit at LSU and totally agree with everything you've listed.
IF he leaves, hire from within (Jimbo) and keep the rhythm and continuity of the team. Jimbo is ready and learned from the best. So did Muschamp for that matter. If it doesn't work in a couple of years, maybe Saban will be ready to come back.
If Saban does go, my vote goes to Norm Chow. ....then Dan Hawkins. I have a hidden desire to see LSU become an offensive powerhouse (see Florida in the 90's) How exciting will games in Death Valley be if LSU became a team that averaged 40+ points a game?!!!
my vote would prolly goto Davis unless we could get a good pro HC. Since ya'll seem to know more about Tice then me, I will say i wouldn't like to have him. But i would still take Shanny, Del Rio, Or Gruden over anybody.
