So I have taken up pasture pool and I think I'm hooked. I've played less than 10 times in my life and never kept score until Monday. I shot 106 which is only, oh 34 over or something like that? I'm still happy with it beings my very limited experience. I think I want to get a good set of irons and was wondering what the golfers on the board hit and what they think. Does it really make a difference? I'm not in the market for a driver because I just can't hit it yet. I come off the tee on almost every hole with my 3 iron. As of now I'm leaning cleveland but would love to get some feedback.

Clevelands hit the ball too high IMO. Check out Golfsmith.com. You can get some nice clubs at a decent price. Don't get "blades".

A tip: Learn the game from the hole back, ie, putting, then chipping, pitching, low irons (9,8,7) mid irons (6,5) and long irons 9#,4,2). Then work on woods. It's not how you drive, it's how you arrive. A 3 foot putt and a 300 yard drive both count as 1 stroke.

Good advice, I no doubt would have broken 100 had I been able to putt worth a damn. Missed more than a few 5-8 footers with little or no break. I'll get there.

Two things I would add to SF's recommendations (which are all good btw) is take lessons, be it individual or in a group. It will be money well spent. Learning the wrong way and trying to fix your mistakes later ain't easy. Been there and tried to do it.

#2 - Find and purchase of copy of Jack's book Golf My Way. Money well spent.

Think about it. If you 3 putt every hole for that 106, a 2 putt on every one would have given you an 84.

Already in the works and I actually just read about trying to undo bad habits in a book so they will be next on the agenda. I just really want to get some good irons and don't know which ones to get.

Get a good hybrid instead. The 3 iron, to newbies, can be the devil. It will turn on you.
