Here is another one involving a potential top 10 pick at the time.
What looks to be a dirty play may not involve intent. Understandably that isn't a popular view point at this time and place. Intent would be crucial to any suit. Football players are not static objects. What players try to hit and what they hit can be 2 different things. Many personal fouls are called not because of intent, but the results of the activity. (Yes, wrongly no foul was called in this case). Some of our greatest ohhhhs and ahhhhs come from punt returners getting smashed. Violation of some halo rule or great play? Was Chaz going for Dorsey's knee or did Dorsey get turned by Zeimba who missed his assignment and engaged Dorsey? The early part of the season when Duckworth was playing matador a comment that repeatedly was made after he was benched echoed, "These guys (the freshmen) may miss assignments, but at least they will hit someone". It is easy to interpret this as a sinister event. It takes a little more effort to look at the blocking scheme being played out across the entire line and make a call. Could it have been planned, yes. But if the intent was there could this have been so well choreographed that Chaz had time to check his initial assignment by first moving away from Dorsey, then in tandem with Zeimba go after Dorsey? I don't think Dorsey provides his opponent the convenience of shopping around for the right opportunity. The two players would have had to acted in concert from the beginning of the snap to make me believe this was intentional, and they did not. The purposeful technique of blocking below the waist is what caused this situation to occur. The technique greatly increases the risk of causing an injury. I will say I am against the method, then I think of all the times coach would say keep your pads low. How do you stay lower to gain leverage and avoid going below the waist, not occasionally, but frequently? Would the rule be different on goal line stands, on runs, on passes? The officials can't even get the rules right as they are currently written. I did look through some tape, not much, to see if LSU employs the same tactic (Cutting). I didn't find any, though I didn't come across any three step patterns in my perusal. The only time I saw something resembling the situation was when a back had been knocked down, and from the ground lunged at the legs of a defensive player from the side. Did he look around first to see if the player was engaged? Was he trying to injure, or seeking to open a crease? (he created a crease that got an additional 2 yards for LSU) Football is not a sanitary experiment, it is a violent game. That is one of the things I enjoy about the LSU\AU series. Willful injury has no place in our series, but all injuries are not the results of willful actions.
What a ridiculous topic. This country is sue crazy. Dorsey plays football, a sport he knows to be dangerous and fouls are part of football. No-calls are part of football, too. The SEC is liable for nothing. End of story.
You miss my point by your emotional reaction. The whole purpose of my thread is to complain that the SEC does not see the importance of issuing a strong suspension or statement against the chop block against GD. Saying it's just part of football is lame in my book. The guy almost lost his career by a dirty block which was not even flagged. As I said in my initial post I don't like lawsuit happy attorneys either. I just think there needs to be a stronger message sent to keep this from happening again.
I dont see Reds reaction as emotional. Its exactly why I responded with a "" above. This is a topic that just needs to die.
No offense TenTex but if that was your intention, then you mistitled it my friend. See how ambigious determining intentions can be. Big difference tween a strong statement and a law suit. Even after you were told by an attorney, you were persistent with filing. I do see where, as the thread evolved, you did refer to what you held was the thread's intention. Hey, you asked for thoughts on it, just my .02. :thumb:
Good point , maybe we can stop car wrecks at the same time!! If he is really worried he needs to sit out the rest of the year , you have to remember who the coach was , was it not a ex LSU coach ?? He wanted to win the game !!
