I don't think anything that happened tonight should have bearing on what we do offensively going forward. Bama's defense was, in fact, that good. Our was...just a little bit better.
Thank God he was gun shy. No one was ever open. Our receivers had a really tough and disappointing night.
This. The difference between Lee and Jefferson tonight was that when it wasn't open, Lee threw it, while Jefferson ran it for positive yards. We need to stick with Lee. He will get some confidence back in the next 2 games. We can't go back to our offense of the last 2 years where all we do is run with no threat of passing. Jarrett Lee just needs to get his head back into it. That Bama defense was nasty. Thing is, the backup QB always does better because he comes in more focused and ready to win than the starter who is most likely shaken up mentally. We've seen Lee make clutch throws before so I see no reason to change anything with Mett. Mett will most likely throw INT's under pressure.
If I had my way -- and the score supports it -- I'd have Lee start WKU and play the first quarter. Jefferson comes in for the second. Give Mett the second half, with the first couple of possessions being with the ones. For lefire: I'd go with Lee/Jefferson in what's been the normal rotation this year and -- again if the score supports it -- give Mett the fourth quarter. That way, Lee should have some confidence restored, Jefferson continues to grow in the new simplified offense and Mett has some real game experience (with some coming on the road against an SEC opponent) in case tragedy strikes.
Update? Randy Rosetta (@RandyRosetta) 11/14/11 1:48 PM #LSU coach Les Miles: "We're playing the best two QBs we can and getting Zach (Mettenberger) ready."
Too late now to get him any quality time. The QB rotation killed any chances of that happening. The offense with JJ starting won't score much so Mett will get no chance to play from here on unless someone is injured.
