Was DandyDon a 5 Star or a 4 Star recruit out of high school?

There will be a QB battle in the spring between Russell and Flynn. Perrilloux will join it in August and there should be a battle royale. But RP will begin at #3 and will have to take it away from the sophomores in three short weeks if the starter's going to be him in game one. For once I have no favorite in this contest.

    May the best man start.

But LSU would be better off having two HS All-Americans in the QB rotation. And hopefully an offense that puts a game away in the 3rd quarter so we can play the third QB as well. LSU could have worse problems than a talent jam at quarterback.

I don't see how anyone can possibly consider that RP can be the starter by the first game, everyone needs to really get a reality check on this kid....

Not even Chris Leak started his first game. Now if by mid season he EARNS it, hey more power to him and lets roll with it. Until then, he is just another freshman and he is the #3 QB on the depth chart, PERIOD. Russell and Flynn are battling for the starting job. Perripoo will fight for it, but unless he starts spending day and night from signing day on reading the playbook and watching film of defenses, he won't be the starter.

And there's a chance he won't even play at all this year if he gets redshirted. I just don't understand how some can assume he will just come in here and start. Let's support everyone including RP, but at least show some respect to Jamarcus and Flynn who have shed their blood, sweat, and tears for the team for two years now.

Don't be so quick to discount North Texas. North Texas wins their conference almost every season, plus, it's going to be the opening game of the year, when the Tigers traditionally come out flat. I'm not saying the Tigers won't win, or even win handily, but North Texas isn't going to be the cupcake everybody seems to think.

Starting RP against NT is a fricking joke. If he beats the other 2 guys out(which I seriously doubt), that's one thing...but to just hand him the starting job to boost his confidence is laughable. What would that do to JR & MF's confidence & how does that prepare them to come back the next week against a very tough Arizona St. team? Think before you post next time.

How can one not consider the possibility that RP could start the first game? Under more ordinary circumstances (ie - an upperclassman in the mix who knows the system) I would count Perrilloux out, but this is not your typical QB battle.

Factor 1: This is the first year for a new coach - a new coach who happens to be offense-minded. Therefore, Russell and Flynn both must learn a new system. This gives Perrilloux a fighting chance. Les Miles did retain Jimbo, so Russell and Flynn will certainly gain an advantage there (however, it appears as though Fisher and RP have developed quite a relationship over the course of the last year - how it compares to Jimbo's relationship with the other two I have no idea). Also, Ryan Perrilloux, for better or worse, will be the flesh and blood that separates the Nick Saban era from the Les Miles era at LSU. Miles will be judged on his ability to develop all talent (and all 3 QB's), but Perrilloux and Miles symbolize the start of the next era...

Factor 2: Perrilloux has a track record of having an intense work ethic and a very hungry approach to improving his play. There is little doubt in my mind that Perrilloux already has a something resembling a Les Miles playbook (along with Russell and Flynn) and that he will be watching and studying film. This kid has more football smarts than Russell - I truly believe that, and we saw Saban insinuate that Russell had playbook and preparation problems last season. IMO, Perrilloux can outwork and outsmart Russell through the summer - just my opinion, and I think that he can outplay Flynn. Flynn may have the ability to outthink them both, but does he have the ability to outplay and outwork them? Perrilloux is not a wildcard in this race. Russell had serious trouble last year learning the playbook and running the show and I don't think Flynn has seen enough action (in games or in practice) to have much of a leg up on the Freshman.

IMO, this is Russell's job to lose, Flynn's job to win, and if Ryan Perrilloux beats them out for the job then we are in good shape at QB and the kid is LEGIT.

I'm not assuming anyone will start, but this is a situation that I think bodes well for all three to get their shot at starting.

Factor 3: I have heard talks that Rohan Davey may work with Perrilloux this summer. This is a HUGE deal. Davey knows what it's like to earn the job through adversity and in front of a torn fan base. Personally and athletically, this could be a big advantage for Perrilloux. Maybe Ro will work with all three, but if he works privately with RP, I like his chances even more...

    This will be fun.

Just out of curiosity, do you think Vick is one of the 3 best QB's in the NFL?

You do make some good points about the playbook. and if he does have this work ethic that you speak of, then RP sure does not come off as having that mentality talking his smack to the media. We have seen what players will do for someone who they dont want playing at QB, and if he keeps it up he'll be in the doghouse with the players before he comes on campus. I just wish he would shut his mouth and leave it on the field.

RP has loads of talent and ability, and he can surely run. But his decision making, reading defenses, and speed of defense is something he is not used to on the college level no matter how hard of a worker he is. He simply has a long way to go. Maybe he is better than Russell when Russell came out. But Jamarcus either a. can not read defenses or b. would not put in the work to be great. If it is option B, then the RP signing will light a fire under him to work hard and you'll see the QB he was brought in to be. Flynn on the other hand has no pressure b/c no one is talking about him, and his decision making is probaby better than JR, but Flynn has not played much.

LSU cant play RP b/c he has a load of talent. He will need to learn in practice and get ready that way like the rest of the QB's. This team is ready for a national championship run now, they are not ready to groom a QB in games for the future. But, if he earns it then i'll support him. I just don't think he will, I think it's a definite redshirt year for RP, and there's nothing wrong with that.
