what things??? Don't tell me its things like, RP will win the starting job!!!! Thats not a great thing!!! It might be good long term, but for this season thats not GREAT!!! If thats the case, look for another up and down year like last.
Perrilloux isn't going to play here for four years anyway, LSU might as well use him this year to get experience quicker. If he takes the starting job and succeeds, he'll leave for the NFL after his sophomore or junior seasons. If Russell keeps the job and is still here next year, Perrilloux will transfer. Parade All-Americans don't ride the bench very long. There are greener pastures. No redshirt. He plays this year and gets his opportunity to take the job if he can. Probably next year.
I think he should be redshirted unless you need him. However, like red stated, he might move on and declare after three seasons or transfer if he isn't getting the playing time. If that is where his loyalties lie (strictly with himself), then he might be another TO, a great talent that causes more team disruptions and negates his great talents. I think Russell is going to do fine for you guys since I don't think Miles will be so trigger happy (Randall was an easier sub than PR, just based on experience.)
I don't agree with Red. He may or may not leave early for the NFL - no way to know that right now. But I don't think he's as greedy as you see it. Of course he wants to play, but he chose LSU knowing there was some tough competition & when his time does come he'll be that much more prepared because of it. I don't think he will redshirt, nor do I think he should. No reason for it - let him get some playing time this year to get his taste buds wet.
I never said he was greedy. I just said if he's good enough to take the job as a freshman, he'll be considering the NFL within two years. Geez, if Matt Mauck found it smart to leave early, its hard to imagine Russell or Perrillouux not following suit. If either of the Parade All-Americans is quarterbacking at LSU in their senior year, I'll buy you a seafood platter at Mike Andersons, Parso. Conversely . . .
Something tells me that Mauck had nothing to lose, b/c if he didn't get drafted, he became a millionaire without the two-a-days... a dentist...
i also think rp can be used on plays(kinda like trick plays) like kevin faulk was used for. marcus vick also came in for vt for a few plays like that also. i think the thing with rp that is different than when kevin came in is that the defence has no idea if it will be a run or pass pal, with kevin everyone knew it would be some sort of option or draw play. i won't mention names but there were a lot of people jumping on someone for bringing up stat numbers from rp in scrimmage, matt flynn has also just been performing in scrimmage. i keep reading these sports writters stuff about flynn and what i'm hearing from former football players that have been allowed to watch practice(and not just for a few series) is that there is no doubt that jr will be the starter. by trick play i don't really mean trick play, just bringing him in is like catching the defence off balance like a trick play is designed. matt is better scrambling but no where like rp so i don't see him coming in for that change of pace type play. should he or shouldn't he, i guess the main reason would be how jr does this year, if anyone here is thinking national champs i just don't see it happening with matt. as good as matt may be it would probably be like last year(good but not quite good enough to get over that hill). i think its pretty much decided that he won't and will get some playing time this year, probably not as a starter but will see the field.
I can say that they do have a trick play where RP sneaks in at RB, and JaMarcus russell goes into motion, and RP takes the shotgun snap and runs... But i doubt they run it this year...
RP said when he first signed that it was all about playing and moving on to the next level- I think he sees his college days as just a springboard to the NFL- nothing wrong with it, unless you come in with a Josh Bootie attitude.
I hope RP redshirts. I'd like to see to have some separation between Jamarcus and RP. Plus, I don't care how great a player RP is and I've seen him play enough to know he's an incredible athlete, but I have high expectations of the Tigers this year and I'm sorry but teams just don't compete for the NC with a true freshman QB. There is just so much to learn and to adjust to that it wouldn't be beneficial for LSU as a team to have a true freshman at the helm.
