Chevis made some good plays. Most important, he didn't get burned and made some nice deflections. Saban will work him to death and he will be all the better for it. With Mario out, somebody needs to step up, and Chevis showed he will be in the mix. As for Hester, the kid is playing pretty darn well for a true FR. He will get stronger under Moffitt, and his blocking (which is good) will become even more solid. I like that we have a FB who is a receiving threat out of the backfield. That enables us to go split back formation (pro-style) and be that much more dangerous.
I agree. I would like to (and expect to) see a play in which Hester feigns a block and catches a pass over the middle when we need a big play to score or keep a drive alive. :geaux:
Yeah. That play we get beat on occasionally where the back slips out right over the middle near the umpire. We should exploit that, too, given the opportunity.
Well at least you got the "Rookie" part right. You said "He even got some push on a few." I like to see the fullback knock the linebacker into next week. I like the Robert Tyler type of fullbacks, no not his personal problems. This is not a knock on Hester. He will get bigger and stronger. He is only a freshman and I am glad he is on our team. But if we are talking about the present, he is not big enough yet to clear out the big boys. You think he is ready to drill Odell Thurman and Channing Crowder at this point? If you don't know who they are, just ask. Alnother thing. While it looks great to have a multi-purpose fullback, that position has to block 99% of the time. Remember Tommy Banks?
Yeah, he was a stiff for the most part. Very overrated, IMO. I doubt he'd see the field with the talent LSU has now. Hester should wind up being a much better player than TB. Plus, if we are looking for a road grader FB, we can always put in Kevin Steltz.
Kevin Steltz is a real good blocking fullback. In high school, he was the fullback for 3 1,000 yard running backs. I would love to see him getting a handoff inside the 5 yard line. I really wish Jimbo would hand if off to Steltz a few times this year. KEVIN STELTZ SCOOOOOOOOORES!
I'm not convinced he'd be much of a ball carrying threat, but he's strong as a bull and a hell of a lead blocker.
Hookfin ran a 4.77 forty at his NFL combine. "Hook" just didn't have the natural talent speedwise to be a true lockdown corner.
