Don't know if this was posted before, but I stumbled on it this afternoon. There are 14 or 15 on the list from LSU (pretty good):geaux: SI Louisiana Top 50
The article was published in 1999. Since then you gotta add Josh Reed to the list. Olympic high hurdle gold medal winner Willie Davenport from Baton Rouge is missing from the list, and didn't Steeler Hall of Fame cornerback Mel Blount play for Southern? I remember when that issue of SI came out. I might still have it somewhere. The listed the top 50 athletes who were natives of each state. Skip Bertman now lives in Baton Rouge but I think he is a native of Florida. I don't know where Pat Henry was born but I don't think he is a Louisiana native either. If the critera for being on a states list was achieving playing of coaching fame in the state Pete Maravich and Shaquille O'Neil would be on the Louisiana list. Pete Maravich is not listed on the Pennsylvania list even though he was born in Alliquipa, PA or for North Carolina where he grew up. Shaq was born in New Jersey but he is on the Texas list where he played high school BB. Roger Clemens is on the Texas list but he was born in Ohio. Former LSU QB Y.A. Tittle is on the Texas list.
