Glad to have their kids on the team. Hopefully their association with our program will be a positive one.
Mr. Corley told me that Sidell, after he decommited from Florida, was NEVER going to Bama, but they kinda let the media think that so that they wouldn't get harrassed by the local Bama fans in Mobile. He said it was pretty much out of Tennessee, Oklahoma and LSU and after a couple of dealings w/ Les Miles, he said they knew LSU was the school for Sidell. Phelon Jones' dad, Tony and Sidell Corley, Sr. both spoke VERY highly of coach Mallory, Pelini and Miles and the entire staff. It made me grin from ear to ear to hear that. The guys even gave me their phone numbers b/c they said I could have their OM tix. They seem to be good people.
Yeah, but that is mostly from disgruntled Bama fans b/c they were never really in the mix, although they thought that Sidell was theirs. Add Phelon and JaMarcus to the mix and LSU owns Mobile. I work in Mobile and can tell you first hand that it chaps their a$$e$ when a local commits to LSU.
I know bama fans dont like the Mobile situation but all my info about Corley Sr was from 1998-2002 when I lived in Mobile. He had a bad rep then. Dont know anything about whats going on there now. Dont matter though, we got em...gumps didnt.
Dont forget about Chevis, I know a few Bama fans who swore that there was no chance we would sign him.
Wasn't Chevis a two or three star recruit? I know Bama pursued him but he wasn't a highly recruited 4 or 5* recruit out of high school.
Chevis was a 3* and was recruited as a WR by every school but LSU. The Bama fans didnt know jack about him because Shula didnt recruit Mobile hard, so they didnt know what they were talking about or know who he was. Bama would offer guys and never talk to them. He was highly recruited, though. There is an article somewhere where Saban said he was the best high school db he had ever seen.
