A friend just called and told me that Skip Bertman's house in Baton Rouge burned down - 80% of the home is destroyed including his office where all of his LSU and other memorabilia was. Among other very precious things, Skip had some things signed by Babe Ruth. Very tragic. My thoughts and prayers are with them. If anyone has any information, please post...

I just saw his house on the news. They interviewed smoke and said a lot of irreplacable objects were destroyed, like CWS memorabilia. This is truly tragic and I hope that some other things were able to be savaged.

How sad, I truely feel badly for him.

I heard about that this morning- all that memorabilia that cannot be replaced...my heart goes out to him. Poor guy.

And no, Sourdoughman, from what I understand- no one was hurt.

    absolutely terrible news.

Did they mention on the news what the suspected cause is?

Yes, a spark from a power strip in his office (garage).

What a loss, all that memorabilia and he earned every piece of it. That is indeed very very sad. At least everyone is OK. It probably is no consolation but at least he had the memorabilia to lose. No fire can take the memories from him.:geaux: :lsug: :tigerbase :tigerbase :tigerbase :tigerbase

My heart go out to Skip and his family. It said that he lost all his
memorabilia and game tapes. Well, we can't replace all the memorabilia like his CWS stuff and what not but we could try and get a campaign together and make some game tapes of the LSU baseball games he lost. I mean there has to be someone who has a collection of LSU baseball games on Tape or DVD. He's given some much to our university so at least we could give something back to him.

Perhaps some baseball fans would even be willing to give up a piece or two of some of their memorabilia from CWS past.

I think the only thing that can be done for Skip and his family is to simply march back to Omaha this year and bring him home a new College World Series Trophy to help him start his new collection. Who's coming with me?
