He's the baseball version of Jim Mora... You know, I like a coach that can "call a spade a spade". No, I don't like a coach that ALWAYS lays the blame on players...or ALWAYS lays the blame on coaching...but you HAVE to be able to call out either of those at SOME point...
If, like the the first 2 games this weekend, we get BLOWN OUT, and errors (be it mental or the physical "throwing errors", etc.) led to the downfall, then as manager, you need to call that out--you can be diplomatic about it and say, "the COACHING staff will have to work better with these players to correct that"...Then act on it. If another game down the road produces the same sort of result AFTER adequate attempts to correct it via coaching has taken place, then I don't see anything wrong with letting the players know that you expect more from them--get them to get their heads on straight if that's the case.
But this whole, "there is nothing we can do" crap has GOT to go!
Good point. We ARE a young team, and you don't want these players getting discouraged too quickly...but you do still have to give them some level of standard. And getting out-scored 32-7 against South Carolina is certainly below that standard.
Didn't one of our former pitchers come back?? Was it Thompson? Can't remember.
I'm with you. Really. I dislike the whole "bashing of our coaches" thing--especially by those that don't really have ledgitimate gripes but only do it because it seems to be the "in" thing to do. IMO, as long as you have a head coach that understands that we have a goal to be as competitive as we possibly can; knowing that players and fans alike are looking to compete for championships here, and at least ATTEMPT to fix the things that are "broken" throughout a season, then I can't find them at fault too often.
Would anyone care to think that Miles, Brady or Pokey would EVER make a comment like: "there's nothing we can do" ???? No way!
