I don't think you're referring to me but I do want to say that I happen to enjoy your, and Fish's, posts very much. Don't assume because someone doesn't completely agree with you that they are against you. On Miles, there happens to be a lot of things I DO like about him. Regardless, no one can argue with what he's accomplished and he's obviously not the goober he comes across as being. He's not my choice for a game day coach but the way he handles his kids is the way all coaches should. It's also a reflection of his success recruiting also. My point in entering this thread, however, was not to slam anyone. I was just trying to put some perspective. Like what you referenced about people going bat shit crazy, it works both ways.
I am satisfied. If you aren't satisfied, you are like my seven yr old that complains that his ice cream doesn't have sprinkles. Unfortunately I'm lumped in with you dumbasses, one day because of you we will lose fulmer and end up with Kiffin, Dooley, Martin, etc
Don't disagree, but I don't think it's that simple, Red. I was at LSU when Archer became coach, and then Hallman. Archer is a case of what I was speaking to. He inherited a solid team, but couldn't keep it going. His 10 win season was his first season, and it went quickly downhill from there. As far as Arnsparger, he was a good coach, but not much of a recruiter. Stovall was a better recruiter than coach. This assisted Arnsparger achieve success. When Miles came in and went 34-6 in his first 3 seasons, the "living off of Saban's recruits" crowd was loud and proud. Well, after year 8, Miles is currently sitting at 34-6 in his last 40 games again, and it's because he's been able to maintain by great recruiting, coaching, and management. Therefore, the talent alone argument is done.
Also Red, let's just use % instead of real numbers. More telling. What was Chollie Mac's winning % vs Miles? Arnsparger's? See what I mean? The numbers can be manipulated to make anyone's argument seem sound, but that number doesn't argue. It's a fact that cannot be skewed. And if we wanna talk about schedules? Please. I used to look forward to the Rice game every year as a younger person that loved beating the ever living crap outta some team. And we played Tulane every season. I remember the Bear Bryant/Chollie Mac series. O'fer. I also remember losing to USC, although it was a GREAT game and we could've won. Miles has a very impressive record against top tier teams. Chollie Mac did not.
No tiga, of course I wasn't referring to you. I find we are in agreement on many things. Like yesterday, we were just looking at it from different perspectives. I was talking about the posters that don't seem to like LSU in general, much less our head coach.
What they may be trying to say is that we have more talent because we have had many top ten recruiting classes in a row. I believe we are tied for second as of today. You would be correct in stating the first string talent could be very similar with the top teams. The difference is the bench. We win allot of games in the second half, due to the fact that we rotate players so much. Other teams do not have the same talent on the bench and get worn down.
Define "talent". For purposes of recruiting we base that term on production in HS. It doesn't always translate to CFB so saying that about LSU is a plus for our coaches. THAT IS something I credit Miles for A LOT. We play young players, he and our coaches do a great job getting them ready for this level imo. Another of Miles' strong points. You don't hear RB's complain about lack of PT and leave like they once did at USC when they were stacked. Not fair, your friends get BJ's.
Do you have a point? They only get BJ's from you----you little gum drop. Now go and wipe your chin off, and try to come up with a more appropriate response next time.
Along the DL, this years class may after a few years, rank with the 2009 class. In 2009 we had Sonic Sam, Logan, Downs, Brockers, Davenport and Mingo. Davenport being the only one moving to the other side of the ball. As for the OL, in 2001 we signed a good class in Ben Wilkerson, Whitworth, Niswanger and Nate Livings(Ok, this was the second of 3 years he signed with LSU).
