So, did LSU underachieve?

What this tells me is maybe they didnt belong their but got favorable treatment. Anybody here remember when strength of schedule was more in play.

Guess who felt the hurt when it mattered more.

Thats right USC . Because their conference and the people their conference played hurt them. Weaker competition makes you look better.

I say put strength of schedule back in play because it got changed the year after the condoms didnt make the Champ game.

And as for LSU underachieving i think you need a lot of breaks to go your way when your playing in the media picked championship game and if the breaks dont go your way you have people saying you underachieved.

A few breaks in the Auburn game go our way and it could have been us instead of Fla. in the game against Ohio St.

And would Fls. have been champion if USC hadnt lost to UCLA.

Fla. got some breaks just like we did in 2003.

Exactly. If it wasn't for the whole re-match scenario UF wouldn't have even been in the MNC. You can't base success on MNC's as long as the BCS is around.

Ah yes, the prophylactic reference.

The conversation over SOS and in-conference opponents could go on for years among all conferences with little agreement. Head to head (minus fluke games/bad breaks) is a pretty clear indicator of who's the best. Since 2003, USC is 4-0 against SEC teams including a shutout against Auburn at their place and a dominating win last year in Arkansas. Until we have another match up, I'd say we were legit contenders each and every year.

This again!!!! Difference vball is that we do play these teams EVERY year. Not 4 times since 2003. It's the beating the players have to take throughout the SEC year that makes it tough.

Since USC isn't part of the SEC conference, 4 times is all we could manage. And it's also why I'm not debating conference superiority just USC's ability to compete with SEC teams on their own turf. If the Pac10 conference is weak but USC can still beat SEC teams on the road and at home, why should we be dismissed as contenders?

We had another long shot this season when we tried to replace Idaho with Georgia but it didn't work out. :nope: I'd like nothing more than to have an SEC home and away on our schedule EVERY year. We finish up a home and away with Nebraska this season and then have aOSU for 2 years after that. I'm just p.o.'d that kal got Tennessee for 2 and will likely do nothing with part 2 this year.

I understand. It is hard to say how well a team will perform in a different conference. We both may want to worry about how well we will do in our own conference, since Cal was nipping at your toes last year and Arkansas kept us home for the SECCG.

Bottom line is in the SEC you have 7 or 8 of these tough games every year. In the Weak pac 1 the only other tough game is when USC plays with themselves.

And LSU has beaten Pac 1 teams the past few years too so that doesnt prove your point.

The bottom line is USC benifits from having a weak conference and being in a major TV market.

They get breaks that alot of Championship caliber SEC teams dont.

And USC didnt get left out of the Championship game when they were undefeated like a Auburn team did.

But boy you should have heard the wining when they did get left out.

They changed the entire BCS formula because of it.

I hate USC and maybe this clouds my judgement a little but you can not deny that crybaby carroll didnt have something to do with the formula being changed.

You agreed to the rules before the season and when they didnt go your way you decided to change them.

They only changed the formula by taking SOS out of the computers because it was already accounted for in the human vote. If it was in the formula last year the Pac 10 would have benefited greatly because these same computers where putting the Pac 10 as the strongest conference. And we and all the voters knew that wasnt the case. I like the new formula better, just for that reason.

My point was that without any other means of comparison, USC's record of 4-0 against SEC teams since 2003 suggests that we were legit contenders regardless of our conference. Don't forget, we weren't in that big TV market of L.A. when we shutout Auburn at home 23-0 in front of a national TV audience. Advantage Auburn, winner, SC.

After having been disappointed in 2003, I had nothing but compassion for Auburn. But, they weren't the only ones who got screwed that year. Kal got the major shaft because despite winning their game against Southern Miss, they didn't win by enough.
