the team would be worse with bass because he would suck up the touches and tmitch would not develop--even if he was a starter. we are just now seeing him play aggressively. he is key because he's will be a third dependable (even go-to) scorer AND he's on the perimeter, good in transition, starting to play the passing lanes well. with bass and without a developed tmitch, lsu would have bb, dmitch and baby. would be a very good team that would have a better record than now, but would be more vulnerable to good teams later when in counts. baby isnt good in transition and isnt an outside threat. i think the team with bass would be more susceptible to zone Ds. i think if bass would be a great passer then the team would be better with him, but he was a black hole. not as bad as lloreda, but close.
so your saying 300k can't help his family? your telling me playing against better players and getting better coaching isn't better then staying in school while you watch your family struggle to find dinner evernight. i mean damn i hate that players can leave early, but for players like bass it is a good thing. his family can now not worry about finding their next meal. i know this is kinda of an exageration, but that 300k can really help.
it doesnt matter anymore bass is gone and both parties seem to be better off.....aslong as he is happy and his family is happy i say its ok....i know i am happy as a lsu basketball fan.
I think Bass made the right decision - for both LSU & himself. His draft stock wouldn't have gone up much more if he had stuck around. He was already SEC Player of the Year & he wasn't going to grow any taller. Without Bass, it's given this young team a chance to really grow & mature. Yea, we would have won a few of those early non-conference games, but who cares? Those losses have only made this team better & they don't mean very much. We're getting respect just for having stuck around with them. And by the way we're still UNDEFEATED IN THE SEC!
sure the $300K will help, but if he doesnt pan out. a much better salary and bonus would help much more. i dont know bass, but that $300K goes quick. first, he only gets $200K. then he gets a car (50K, id bet) and a house, and buys a couple family members cars, and POOF! no big deal if he stays on with someone and gets a contract after his 3rd season, but if not, that lottery signing bonus would sure look good. SEC POY means zero. he had ton to work on--especially since he wouldnt get any taller. he went 2nd round because they thought he might be able to rebound and defend if he played hard. he had/has zero nba offensive skills. if he would have returned and developed ball-handling skills and a consistent jumper he would have gone first round. dont forget, the difference between first and second rounds is a big deal in the nba. with luck he could have gone lottery and made ten times his current salary by signing his name.
We can agree to disagree, but I want to understand this... we have the SEC POY back on our team, with his 17.3 ppg, 56.7% FG%, his 77.7% FT%, and his 46.2% 3pFG%, and you think we'd somehow be worse (note, Bass could have learned to play more on the perimeter--which would have helped his draft status--he already shot a higher 3pt% than Tasmin)? Even if he was a ball hog (and I don't remember Bass that way), I'd make the argument that he would take more of the attention from the other team's defense and OPEN up the game for other Tigers, not lessen it. I don't dispute that having Bass gone DOES make the other players have to step up and mature, but IF Bass was back, TMitch STILL would have been our starting swing forward. So, you have D.Mitch, Temple, T.Mitch, Bass and Davis starting, with the flexibility of even going bigger with T.Mitch playing 2G, Bass playing SF, AND playing Tyrus as PF. We would be deeper too, which ultimately on this team DOES make us vulnerable--we only go about 7-8 deep, with Bass it could have been 8-9. Ultimately, it would have been Tyrus and Darnell who would have been affected more, and perhaps that would have been a GOOD thing, b/c Tyrus wouldn't have all of the sudden thought he was worthy of being a lottery pick. Rather, he would have been a great reserve to spell Bass OR Davis, and learned the game more as any freshman should. Bottomline, I find it really hard to see how we would have been worse with Bass on the court. We would have won more of our non-conference games AND we'd be a ranked a team already. I also don't quite get the context of some of your posts. You say we'd be a worse team with Bass staying, but yet you're arguing he should have stayed longer to get more $ in the NBA?
you dont remember him as a ball hog because tack was there:yelwink2: i agree, with bass this team would have a better record and be ranked higher (not that that means anything unfortunately). my point is that the team would be more susceptable to a very poor showing like uab last year because i dont think a good enough 3rd option would develop. as far as bass leaving early, many of the best college players arent good pros (perhaps most). bass could have returned and not been a great college player as defined by final success of the team, but increased his nba stock.
YOu know what? You’re a jackass. I remember seeing Bass's family on the news. His mom was wearing a multicolored sheet and was washing things in the lake around campus. It looked as if she hurt her back b/c she carried that stuff on her big head. And I saw his little baby brother 7 years old w/a nasty diaper on sticking his hand in his mouth while fly’s bounced of his face. And his other brother was trying to make a grass and leaf sandwich in-between two pieces of mail that he found. His poor stomach was sticking out and his little chicken chest was all caved in. Give me a break! Take care of his family. I think they could have stuck it out for one more year you green piece of itsh!
For those of you who think BB would have developed a nice outside shot & improved his ball handling skills. How was he going to do this playing the 4 with his back to the basket. Brady wouldn't have put him out on the perimeter just to improve his individual skills. He would have played where LSU needed him most to win ballgames & that's under the basket.
