We can't beat Bama, Clemson, or OSU without the run game. They have the DL and packages to create pressure as Auburn did. Joe struggled. Our OL was somewhat exposed. The run game will force the D to be a bit more honest. Yes, we got conservative at the goal line in that series with the botched 4th down attempt. I do think we need some consistent running though to move forward. That will also help our vertical passing game if we can establish the run.
Based on Joes presser, thats what Auburn tried to do. He said they played a defense they haven’t seen on film all year. Lots of kudos to Auburns defense, but the score should not have been that close.
Ok, when was the last time we could run on Bama? We had the two best backs in the country in back to back years and couldn't run on them.
That was a lot to do with the fact that we couldn’t pass and they loaded the box and didn’t have to respect the passing game.
For certain saban will have something different for us to deal with. He is great at taking away what you do good. So we do need to have different packages. We beat top 10 auburn, be happy for a change. Trust that the coaches will have something different for Saban also.
Well, by running a majority of time in RZ the past 2 games, that could set Bama up for passes in those same situations, if that is part of the mindset/strategy. I hope so, but have my doubts.
That's the point. We have been unable to establish any run against Bama because they destroy us up front. They also have studs in the secondary, which enable them to focus on stopping the pass. If we can somehow establish a consistent run game of those pivotal 3-5 yards per carry, that would help to free up our passing game. I can agree, we're at times focusing too much on the run. Our strength is the passing game. We have the QB, receivers, and our OL is better suited to a quick passing game.
Just remember that Les Miles beat Saban a number of times. We can still win despite being out coached.
