https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1908_LSU_Tigers_football_team Why the school refuses to acknowledge it is beyond me. Add in 1936 when Sagarin voted us number one after the biased AP poll refused to do so.
Triple threat quarterback Doc Fenton led the nation in points scored. The Tigers were retro-picked as co-national champion by the National Championship Foundation, and the NCAA recognizes LSU as national champion for that season along with Penn.[1] However, LSU does not officially recognize this season as a national championship season.[2] The season was clouded by accusations of professionalism by Grantland Rice and rival school Tulane.[3] The SIAA conducted an investigation that cleared LSU of any wrongdoing, but since many publications voted for the SIAA champion prior to the conclusion of the investigation, they did not recognize LSU's title.[
I thought it was because the school made a statement about only recognizing themselves as champs when it was legitimate undisputed champions. Questionable championships they don't laud to bolster the record books unlike Bama.
I got into a pissing match with a Clemson fan before the NC game. He thinks their crap doesn't stink. I pointed out that LSU at that time had 4 but didn't claim it but I was claiming it because he was a dick head. I went back and made my presence known after the NC game last week. Now we have 5 and Clemson has 3. They have lost 2 to LSU.
We have SIX (same as the baseball team), if you also count 1908. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1908_college_football_season 1908 1936 1958 2003 2007 2019
Minnesota is 1936 Champs per AP. LSU was ranked #2. Jeff Sagarin wasn't even born, he only started "Retrograding" sports in 1985. Minnesota also was ranked #1 by 8 different polls. An obvious difference is Minnesota had 1 loss & LSU had 1 loss & 1 tie. The other, one common opponent was Texas. LSU tied them 6-6, Minnesota beat the crap out of Texas 47-19. Let's not become Bama.
I always thought we should claim the 1908 championship. I remember reading about it in the original edition of Pete Finney’s The Fighting Tigers
