The starting points are vastly different today. At the end of WWII the USSR and USA were much closer in terms of military and economic might. Today that is not the case. Russia loses a cold war almost as quickly as they lose a shooting war. Putin knows this, but he can posture for regional power, and make the might USA appear weaker to his people just as he did over the summer.

I'd rather the European Nations take the lead.

We should just abdicate as the Superpower and the leader of NATO? You would be the first to excoriate Obama if he did so.

He should be doing what he's doing. I think he should be quicker with the sanctions but otherwise, we have to be involved. We don't stay out of stuff like this. We are the big dog on the block so we stick our nose into every confrontation that can lead to global instability. It's not like we're sending troops or will have any reason to send troops over there.

How on Earth did you conclude that?

My point is and will be that if this is so serious, we should have been making moves well before Putin moved troops.

It is time for other nations to step up. That doesn't mean we hand over the power and that doesn't mean we do nothing......

Further Red, I haven't once blamed or said anything negative about Obama once in this thread...
