Not true at all actually. A lot of teams intimidate people. The old Jordan led Bulls teams did it all the time. They would come in and act like you had no shot in the world, and its a self fulfilling prophecy once those people buy into it.

Then Michael Jordan would go out and play like they were holding his mother for ransom. Now that's intimidating. They weren't doing it with attitude and smoke and mirrors. They were the best team in the NBA and he was the best player of his era, that helped too. Playing hard took care of the rest.
You must not have played football baseball, or basketball (not sure if it holds true for tennis, golf, etc.). When you play those schools/programs/cities that have long-standing tradition of winning State Championships, etc. many kids go in thinking, in the back of their minds, "We're really going to have our work cut out for us".
