One of the very best posters at ITAT is StatTiger. Here are a few tidbits which may interest you and that also help explain his name. http://mb27.scout.com/fauburnfrm2.showMessage?topicID=132722.topic StatTiger Poster Of The Year Posts: 10352 (9/12/06 8:52:46 am ) JaMarcus Russell is currently the 3rd rated passer in the country and Brandon Cox is 13th. Here is a breakdown by downs: QB Ratings by down... 1st down: Cox ........... 202.8 Russell ....... 158.1 2nd down: Cox ........... 159.4 Russell ....... 160.4 3rd down: Cox ........... 107.4 Russell ....... 378.7 JaMarcus Russell has completed all nine of his 3rd down passes, picking up 5 first downs and 2 TD's. The average distance needed on 3rd down was nine yards. Back in 2004, Jason Campbell was money in the bank on 3rd down passing, posting a 191.9 QB rating on 3rd down during the course of the season. I realize LSU has not been challenged by a good defense as of yet but consider that Campbell's pass rating on 3rd down against Citadel, La. Monroe and La.Tech was 241.0. Russell is off to a great start and QB's under Jimbo Fisher have consistently improved year by year. No doubt, his 3rd down success will drop as they face stiffer competition but it's still amazing when you compare it to JC's "patsy" games and the fact that the average yardage needed to gain was nine yards Here is another stat... Against D1 opponents with a winning record... Cox ......... 102-195-6-1342yds-7tds / 115.8 rating Russell ..... 127-232-7-1895yds-9tds / 130.1 rating I know there are a lot of opinions about Russell but I think he is the best QB in the SEC. His numbers have improved every year and Jimbo Fisher has done a good job developing QB's in the SEC. What scares me most about JR, is his ability to make a big play when he's flushed out of the pocket. Auburn DB's better finish out the play because LSU receivers will break off their routes when Russell rumbles around the backfield. CTT is 3-1 against LSU when AU wins the rushing game and 1-2 when they don't. I also loved this tongue in cheek quote in response to the stats: Moral of the story: Don't let them get to third down. We need to make sure they keep having 1st and 2nd downs where we own them.
Some other interesting stats on LSU: 1. #1 in nation in scoring defense (3.0) 2. 2nd in pass defense (90) 3. 3rd in total defense (164) 4. 15 0f 23 on 3rd down conversions (65%) 5.Scored on 34 straight opportunities in red zone (26 TDs and 8 FG)--that's amazing. 6. No offensive TD scored against defense in last 14 quarters. So....how may points are you guys gonna give me?:thumb:
There's one thing that is fishy that is going around stat-wise for LSU. The 14 straight quarters without a TD. Georgia scored in the 4th quarter of the SECCG. Does this game not count or something? Even if it did.... Arkansas scored in the fourth quarter as well! Where is this nonsense of 14 straight qutarters coming from? Arizona - 4 ULL - 4 Miami - 4
I believe the last time another team's offense scored a TD on LSU's defense was last year by Arkansas.
