  2. One of the mistake was to eliminate the requirement that to sustain a filibuster those engaging in it had to hold the floor and speak continually. Now all they do is vote and that takes the effort out of it. It has become a easy political game to play rather than a serious effort. Only on Democrat senator had the gumption to follow form. He spoke for 15 hours. Whether I agree with his stand or not I salute him for the way he did it.
    This isn't a partisan comment as both parties are complicit in destroying the power of the filibuster. I believe this change took place relatively recently in the 80's I think but I'm open to correction.
    If they want it to gain its meaning and import restore the rule that requires effort to hold one.
