O and the Dems are trying to push this through because the "control" the congress. next year is an election year and too many politicians wont vote for it then. then in '11 the gop will get seats back. everyone knows something must be done, but the gop will fight tooth and nail to prevent it. when they have controlled things they have never tried to reform it (they hated nixon for trying) and when the dems tried they always shot it down. all this seems obvious, but i thought it was worth spelling out because you seem pretty slow, cajun_tiger.
