gotta admit, i like a President who leads the pace lap in the Daytona 500 in the Presidential lemo...with the first lady. This must have triggered berserker mode in many TDS cases
10,000,000 people in the four states where the wall would/will be built voted for Trump. Considering it was a major plank in his campaign platform, its likely a great many of those 10 million want a wall, too.
Why don’t I like the way Trump uses/abuses Executative power/orders? Because it will lead to a democrat doing this eventually. In a CNN town hall Tom Steyer said when asked what he’d do about climate change. STEYER: “I will use the Executive emergency powers of the presidency to tell companies how they can generate electricity, what kind of cars they can build, what kind of buildings we’re gonna have....” That is the stuff of dictatorship
FDR put 70,000 American citizens in internment camps for the crime of being of Japanese descent - by Executive Order. He also outlawed private ownership of gold by EO and ordered all citizens to give their gold to the government, under the threat of jail time. Lincoln suspended habeus corpus - by Executive Order - despite SCOTUS' decree that he had no military authority to do so. Grant created dozens of Indian reservations and forcibly removed multiple tribes of native Americans from their ancestral homelands - by Executive Order Truman unconstitutionally nationalized the steel industry - by Executive Order Carter's creation of FEMA - by Executive Order - granted its director extraordinary powers, creating a virtual dictatorship within the federal government Clinton violated the National Labor Relations Board Act by forbidding government agencies from contracting with firms that used strikebreakers - by Executive Order Don't act like Trump has taken us down some one-way rabbit hole.
@mctiger you're right there is a history of executive orders throughout the history of our country. Trump didn’t invent it and if you check I condemned Obama for the same thing. It’s not partisan but a significant erosion of the way the constitution is supposed to work. Up until W emergency executive orders were rare. It started growing under W but Obama took it to extreme. In fact he had several overturned by the Supreme Court. Trump has taken it further and what the Democrats are proposing is just short of dictatorship. Point is it doesn’t matter who does it or even what the order is. Each executive order used to circumvent the Congress weakens the incentive to do the hard work required to pass law. I can imagine your complaint is that “those damn democrats won’t play with us”.......the same things they say about republicans. Executive orders used to get around the constitution are lazy, corrupting and destructive. Trump and the authoritarians running for President either don’t understand or more likely care about the future or what they’re doing to the future.
