Link Well, safe to say that Spurrier hasn't lost his confidence. I think he could very well be the best in USC history but what is that saying really? And will he really last 7 years as his contract states? I think he lasts four years and is then done
Greatest coach ever at USC isn't saying much if you ask me :hihi: Only if it was southern California instead!
Not to take too harsh a shot at the Gamecocks, but it wouldn't take much for him to become the "greatest coach ever" at that school. From a coaching talent standpoint, the "other" USC has had some impressive names over the years: Dietzel, Holtz, Spurrier, just to name three. How that hasn't translated into consistent victories is kind of weird, especially since there's talent in that part of the country.
Greatest coach ever at South Carolina..... Kinda like being the tallest man at the midget convention.....doesn't mean much.
It may not appear to mean much, but those Gamecock fans are crazy about their football team. They have the least amount of bandwagon fans of any program in the conference, and with CSS now, they have a good reason to be excited. It's gonna' be interesting to watch....
USC has the least amount of bandwagon fans and the most amount of Kool-Aid drinking idiots in the SEC, imo.
Well, Spurrier didn't say he would be the greatest coach ever at SC, he said he would be the winningest coach in history by winning more than 47 games. Problem is, the winningest coach over there has 64 wins, and it took him 15 years to get them. He also lost 69 games. So if Spurrier is to break thge record on this contract he will need to average 9.3 wins a season. I bet he doesn't do it. Anyone remember why they ran Joe Morrison out of town, he was like their best coach ever.
If he actually said this, it seems to me it was said kinda sarcastically tongue-in-cheek. That said, while he may not stick around to become the greatest in USC history numerically speaking, it won't take much for him to be considered the greatest USC coach in history. And that's really what he said, isn't it.
