Taking my son Saturday and Sunday. I think I'll make a hunt Monday morning by myself though weather looks great early next week.

I always heard that you wanted to wait until after the first freeze to hunt/eat squirrel. Something about some sort of parasite?

Also, how do you prepare squirrel, @lsutiga ?

It's rabbits that you need to wait for a freeze before eating. There is a parasite that some carry until temps get cold enough, but not all have them. I know you asked tiga but I'm gonna tell you what we do. I like to cut them up and batter them. (Egg wash then seasoned flour) Then I pan fry them in a black iron pot. Take them out, then make a blonde roux in the same pot. Add onions peppers etc then water to basically have a thick gravy. Put the fried squirrel back in and simmer till tender. Serve over rice with cat head biscuits for sopping up gravy.

A lot of people cook them in agumbo too.

Got my limit (8). 5 fox squirrels and 3 cat/gray squirrels. Was done by 8:30. Took a pic but it's on my pantech and don't know how to post if from there. I usually just send those via text.
