Re: Stan Heath Fired at Arkansas- A&M's Gillispie to take over Yea, I think the coaches are realizing that they're in a recruiting hotbed in Texas as well. And let's face it, Rick Barnes is the Big 12 equivalent of John Brady. The A&M Board of Regents is set to give him a big raise late this week, which could play into it. Since there are so many Big 12 games on TV here and my wife is an Aggie, I hope he stays.
Re: Stan Heath Fired at Arkansas- A&M's Gillispie to take over We could always hire Stan Heath!!:hihi:   If I remember right he did have guards at Arkansas! :thumb:
Re: Stan Heath Fired at Arkansas- A&M's Gillispie to take over You know it's funny you say that. I think in recent years it's Brady 2, Gillipsie 0. Which is not to say that I don't think that Billy G isn't the better coach. I think in most "coaching" circles, there'd be strong argument that Billy G is a better coach as he probably gets more "consistent" play out of his players... but what's ironic here is that they are two coaches really cut of the same cloth. Known as defensive coaches. Very demanding on players--not exactly the warm and fuzzy kind of "players" coaches. Low scoring, "ugly" basketball--but get results. B+/A- recruiters. But, again, Brady's won against Billy G twice now, and as far as I know, Billy G's best NCAA showing is sweet 16. Take that for what it's worth. What you also see in Billy G is he's a mercenary, take no prisoners, I want to be coach of UNC in 3 years kind of coach. If Arkansas lands this guy, is he an upgrade from Heath? Sure. But, will he be the Saban of college basketball? No, he's at least got the sense to shut his trap and not turn his own school against him. But, make no bones about it, he's less loyal to his school than Brady. :geauxtige :bball: :champs: LSU IS A BASKETBALL SCHOOL. ONE FINAL FOUR AIN'T BAD.
The official offer has been tendered according to the San Antonio news groups... HERE is their report According to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, Razorbacks athletic director Frank Broyles was hoping to hear from the Texas A&M basketball coach — whom Broyles wouldn't specifically name as receiver of the offer on Tuesday. "We could have a quick announcement," Broyles told the Arkansas newspaper. "Or it could fall through. I've offered the job, and we're waiting to hear." Gillispie, who's taken the once-stagnant Aggies to the NCAA tournament the past two years, left his office late Tuesday afternoon and was unavailable for comment. A&M athletic director Bill Byrne declined comment Tuesday afternoon when asked if Arkansas had contacted him about Gillispie, claiming he'll comment "when we have something to say." Will the cadets have an impact?!? Just outside A&M's athletic department, about 150 students and former students gathered at 6 p.m. on Tuesday for a "Keep the Coach Campaign," where they performed the school's renowned yells and "sawed Varsity's horns off" to the strains of the Aggie War Hymn. An A&M spokesman passed word to a yell leader that Gillispie no longer was in the building but sent his thanks. That prompted an announcement by the yell leader that Gillispie "is out of town as we speak," drawing a few gasps from the crowd before the spokesman corrected the message that Gillispie, indeed, was in town, just not on campus. Gillispie, 47, is scheduled to fly to Atlanta today for the Final Four. Broyles said he's considering interviewing candidates in Atlanta, if his primary target falls through. Broyles said Arkansas plans to pay the "marketplace" value for a head coach. "We're not going to let salary stop us from getting the man we want," he said.
Re: Stan Heath Fired at Arkansas- A&M's Gillispie to take over So, let's put this thread to bed. Gillispie uses the Hogs' falling over themselves to land him to become the richest paid Big 12 coach. Move over Barnes and Self. There's a new Sheriff in town. Don't worry the SEC West is a little safer. Sorry Hogs, back to the proverbial drawing board... http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2817721
Looks like the west isnt safe just yet...... http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/basketball/ncaa/03/31/bc.bkc.arkansas.coach.ap/index.html
Ha! The Hogs are delusional. They had a better shot a Billy G. He's at least very enticed by money, and he's at a football school in a football conference nearby. Kentucky might have a shot at Calipari, but Arkansas doesn't. Memphis is a decent gig by all college standards, and Calipari likes it in Memphis, with the good recruiting platform, good fans and decent money already. Sorry hogs, you need a plan "B" (or "C"). I'm not worried about the West with this news. :geauxtige :bball: :champs: LSU IS A BASKETBALL SCHOOL. ONE FINAL FOUR AIN'T BAD.
I don't get it? I admit that I don't keep up with college basketball like I once did but having said that why did Stan Heath get fired? I read somewhere that he had 2 consecutive 20 win seasons? Fired?
