I remembered this article but thought there was another follow up article that pointed to the contract. Not worth it to me to look it up so I'll concede you the point and add a like to your post.
I'm not sure the clear truth will ever be known, but it's likely a cobination off both the offense and the contract clause. The shinanigans with his contract may have been simply the straw that broke the camel's back.
oh its never just one reason. i just liked this version. like life, these decisions are complicated and factor in many variables.
