Should Wake Forest be a peasant, they did win the ACC last year. The company they are in right now on the list is for retards that can barely find the stadium each week, let alone win a conference title even if it might have been a fluke.

I think Wake Forest will have to put a few more seasons together to move up to the next tier. I'm not talking conference title, but a bowl game at least.

I like to refer to the group of "Kings" as "Old Money" There is a lot of old money in that group just skating by on past success. When you look at the "Barons" group, LSU is obviously the class of that group. We win the NC this year, beat USC, then we rise to the top above everyone else.

Was LSU's baseball program a top tier program in 1990? No
Is LSU's baseball program considered top tier now? Yes, based on past success.

I love where we are right now. We have a smarter play maker at QB this year with loads of talent.

Just wait a few games and you'll be missing good ol' JaMarcus. A 1-0 record cant be compared to a 25-4 record. If the people who KNOW football knew he wasnt a smart enough player, he wouldnt have been drafted no. 1.

I agree and thought his comment was a little subjective as well as off-color- definitely could have been worded as to not bag on a player who gave so much to LSU.

I understand your position. It seems in big games with the game on the line JR made some bad decisions that kept us from having a chance to win the SEC coupled with some great athletic plays that also help us win games. Not to mention other mental mistakes during other games we should have put teams away early. I think JR is deserving of his #1 draft status. There have been other QB's who have great talent that also don't have the "IT" factor. I'm betting that Matt Flynn can deliver the "IT" factor with his and our team talent this year.

There's the "Subjectivity" I mentioned and which of the 4 games do you speak of?? The 21 points the tired defense gave up against Tennessee, the missnapped fumble on the one, or any other fumbles in that game; or any of the calls that were so obvious that stopped- what was it, three of our drives.

C'mon TenTex, don't want to be ugly with you, you're a good guy but just couldn't let that squeak by. :thumb:

I think this board is about sharing what you feel and think. I think JR gave everything he had. I'm not trying to diminish that in any way. I'm not going to go back and relieve other games. I think most folks know what I'm talking about. Many things go into winning an NC. Vince Young is a current QB who has the "IT" factor and USC knows it and so does Mack Brown. The Titan's are figuring it out now. If Matt Flynn can fire on all cylinders then we have a great chance to win it all this year.

mandel's groupings seem reasonable, given his criteria.

anyone care to compare the achievements of LSU and UF in this generation?

i dont know UF well enough, but by memory:

    LSU UF
    NCs---------1 2
    NC finals----1 3
    SECC--------2 (88 too long ago) 4?
    div champ---3? 5?
    BCS bowls---3 1?

    heismans----0 1
    heisman
    contenders--0 1

mandel is certainly right having UF and LSU on different levels according to public perception. in addition to their dismantling of a huge Big10 favorite, they had a heisman winner, they were in NC contention for many years and they had a charismatic coach.

a LSU NC soon puts them in the top tier and a win over So. Cal in NC this year might put them at the top of that tier in the public's eye.
