I totally agree with everything you just penned. JR is one of the best QB's in Tiger history, right there with YA and BJ. We all get to play Monday Morning and that's my take. We have no guarantee how Matt will play. He just seems to have it all going for him with starting as our new QB. Hopefully he will blend his experience, talent and head for a fun championship season. I can't think of any reason why he can't perform at a championship level. It's all up to him. :geauxtige
Nobody who was anybody wanted the Nebraska job either and are they not considered a top program based on their success in the 70's and 80's?
As much as I dislike UT, I believe they deserved the status awarded. That opinion isn't based on Fulmer (even with a NC under his belt) but more so on Majors, Neyland, and their tradition. After all, they were one of the first teams from the SEC to make a trip to the Rose Bowl, if I recall correctly.
Tn lost to USC 1940 14-0, lost to USC 1945, 25-0. They advertise themselves as the most winning program in college football over the last 75 years. I don't vouch for that (you know what liars they are ). I do know they are only slightly behind Bama in SEC wins. They have a proud tradition.
The columnist is living in the past, in a world where coaches are fired after two years for not winning, prestige is earned fast and lost just as quick. It's over for Notre Dame, their history is not going to save them from what has become inevitable, but NBC tries every weekend. And Alabama has one conference championship in the past 15 years and hasn't won a NC in 30. Hell where is Army they have won 3 NC's they must been a king? A king should be anyone who has won a NC in the past ten years because thats about as far back as a recruit is gonna remember and they are not gonna know Bear Bryant from Bob Toledo, they just want a NC and national exposure to launch an NFL career. Prestige only matters in winning recruits, prestige is more easily determined by the best recruitng classes over the past decades, where are the best kids going because those are gonna be the schools that pull the most prestige. And to my point about LSU baseball, that sport doesn't get as much national attention as football, so past acheivements are forgotten even faster, a NC in football lasts twice the time that it does in baseball.
