137-59-7 record in 18 seasons....that's 7.6 wins per year, and more like a top 20 average ranking (5 of his teams weren't even good enough to make a bowl appearance)

After what Saban left, that's not acceptable any longer. Or maybe for some, it still is.

will you go on record as stating that you will be satisfied with 7-4 and 8-3 seasons on average? (i know we're going to 12 game scheds next year, but u get my point)

Seriously. If Nick Saban standards must be maintained, who exactly do we replace Miles with? Who was available that was better? How many Nick Saban-caliber coaches are out there to be hired.

Nobody would be satisfied with 7-4 consistently. However even Nick had 8-win seasons in 2 out of five years. Do you not understand that there will be an occasional 8-3 year? I think we'll have one next year with our three toughest games on the road. But in odd years we have a good shot a 10+ wins again with the 3 tough games at home.

It is unrealistic to expect 10 wins a year, every year.

My defense of the position is simple: Results. 10 wins. 2 losses. Anyone on this earth who looks at a 10 win season including coming first in the division which includes two ranked opponents and sees a failure has to be paying attention to the wrong things. Personally, I don't care about the future. I care about the game right now.

If Miles goes 0-11 next season, I'll say he's a poor coach and got lucky this season. Hell, even if he only gets 6 wins I'll probably say he's a poor coach. Until that point, I'm not speculating at anything. What possible good can it do? Do you think we should fire him because we SUSPECT he's a bad coach? Jeez. Use common sense. 10 wins is 10 freaking wins. A winning season is a winning season, and the same goes for bowl berths, and division championships.

I kind of like this philosophy. Except only the idiots are wanting him fired right now. Everyone else is, with reason I think, just concerned about the future of LSU football.

just realize that most people who worry about that kinda crap don't have anything substantiative to add to the mix

in fact, those very same people are looking up the word substantiative in the dictionary right about now
