I am not going to complain about the Sugar Bowl, but it is not a great matchup. Frankly, ND doesn't even deserve to be in this game. They have been stomped by both MICH and USC, and we were pretty much lined up to take on either one of them. ND is a step down. But it is what it is. The answer to this problem lies within the BCS system.
Well...I'm done with the board for a few days...you guys never cease to amaze me. The Rose would have been fne but the Sugar is just as good. So no Nut...I won't agree with your "everyone here knows it" because I'm sure as hell happy with the results. See y'all Weds when the stupidity dies out
the suga is sweet! We need to whip the irish and send them back North! :geauxtige the rose bowl is over rated anyway. a bunch of flowers? sheesh. :dis:
I don't see what the problem is. To me it is very simple. LSU is in a BCS bowl, which is great. For most fans, it probably would have been greater to be in the Rose for many reasons. 1. We've never been there. 2. An SEC team hasn't been there since 1946. 3. A La. team hasn't been since 1932 (Tulane). 4. It's conceivably a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. 5. The matchup with either USuCk or Mich. would have been demonstrably better than what we are getting in ND. OTOH It is great to go to the Sugar Bowl and continue to help SELA rebuild and be a part of that. We are in our "favorite" bowl or home bowl, etc. We have an opponent we should be able to beat. The football world will be watching us. After you add everything up, I think LSU fan should be ecstatic that we are going to a BCS bowl, but it is ok to be disappointed that it won't be the Rose when we appeared to be so close.
I still don't get it. The Sugar is usually reserved for the SEC champs. We're THIRD IN THE WEST. How can anyone not see us as being fortunate? Of course the dream would have been us vs USC in the Rose. But, it didn't work out that way, out of no fault of our own. Given that we basically didn't show up for our two biggest games this year, I fail to see how we're getting screwed. In fact, I don't really think that anyone is getting the shaft by the BCS this year.
It was certainly a let down, but depressing is a strong word. Meauxjean2 has the right attitude. Get over it and realize there are a lot of schools that would love to be in our position, including Auburn and Tennessee. Playing ND won't be bad at all. We have played them 4 times. We have won two and they have won two. Here is a chance to take the lead in the series. We have to start looking at the positives.
Nothing wrong with looking at the positives. Tomorrow is a new day. Etc. But I don't think there is anything wrong with letting people vent tonight. Give them a night to get it out of their systems, and then start looking forward tomorrow. I think that is the right thing to do. Come game time, everyone will be well on board.
That's the problem....Take LSU completey out of the equation. Also take out the fact that it is an SEC school that got into the title game. Are you satisfied with a system that allows a team to get jumped in back-to-back weeks even though they didn't play a game? Are you OK with the thought that the only reason they got jumped was because of the enormous backlash the pollsters received because of the looming rematch? But everyone is supposed to be happy. Why? Michigan and USC go to the Rose (which most of their fans would have been happy with pre-season since that's their bowl) LSU goes to the Sugar (which we would have been happy with pre-season because that is our bowl) Notre Dame is in the BCS OU goes to Fiesta (where the BIG XII champ goes, so they should be happy) A whole lot of people on this board spent a lot of time bashing the talking heads for flip-flopping the last couple of weeks. Now that the pollsters have done the same I'm supposed to be happy because we're going to the Sugar? Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we're going to a big-time bowl, but I find it somewhat unbeleivable that there aren't more people upset at what just happened. The pollsters spoke, Michigan was #2 in the land. Oh wait a minute, that would mean a re-match, nobody wants that. Nevermind, they are # 3 USC is #2. Damn, USC lost...oh wait now I get it, we made a mistake, Florida isn't really #4, they are # 2 after all, they did beat a team they were predicted to beat. In 3 weeks time, the pollster went from "Michigan was just an on-side kick away from beating OSU" to not just being # 3, but behind different teams each week, all without UM playing a game.
I pretty much completely agree with this. The only allowance I would make is that UF did have to beat a top 10 on a neutral field to win it's conference at the end of the season, but I don't think that is enough to sway my opinion away from the above. Also, maybe the BCS should just make a rule that if you don't win your Conference, you cannot play in the BCS title game. Of course, if they do that, eventually, the call for a playoff system will grow louder because that is what precisely happens in such a system (look at the NFL, for example).
I will be renting pistols in metarie for the protection of your families before going to the sugar bowl. There will be a 200.00 refundable deposit upon return of the firearm.I'll feel much safer watching the sugarbowl from my own home.
