Clair, I apologize. From my vantage point today it seemed like there were far fewer yellow shirts. In this regard, the foot is indeed firmly entrenched in mouth. However, I don't feel like this changes my point. Around me, directly, there were people in black, pink, green, purple, grey, and white. In our group alone there were 1/2 purple shirts. I asked them if they knew about the gold game, and they said yes- but just didn't care about that. I'm willing to admit that this does cloud my judgement. I still stand firm on the issue regarding cheering.

I'm kinda late on this but honestly...what do you expect out of 10,000+ college students? You take the good with the bad, the student section is always the loudest, always does all the cheers and motions, the section that is always the most packed and is section that is always yelling loud when the defense is on the field. It just so happens that they can be vulgar, which really is not exclusive to LSU. I've been games to in the north at Michigan and Toledo and it's the exact same thing. College students are college students no matter where. It's not fair to single out our entire student section especially when you have to realize that a chant can be started by only a few people. Trust me, I'm no big fan of the cursing in chants because I brought my little brother to a game with me last year when they started a couple very vulgar chants and it was not enjoyable. I agree with you in that it is something we should change but its not gonna change and that's the truth. Our generation is one that will always rebel against any rules applied to us. Edit: And I say this as someone who was in the student section today.
This is where I gotta disagree with you. I dont like LSU coming off as a bunch of drunking assclowns, the media does enough to promote that we dont need to help em, but you can not start saying that this is ok to say here but not here. After reading the post I have altered my opinion slightly. I agree that the generations now have NO self respect, I dont feel now that this is the case. I dont remember who posted about driving around in the nice cars and stuff but I think this is a question of moderation. 85% of these kids have an overabundence of CRAP so they do not have limits.
I think every student should be required to bring their little brother or sister to a game. Wonder how much it would change their tune?

When I was young and into the student section I had a blast with the nasty cheers and chants. We all laughed our azzes off and thought it was funny as he11. Now that Im older it does embarrass me a little but I watched the whole game on TV and didnt hear any of the bad stuff. Maybe our fan base and student section need to evolve a little, I dont know. I do know its pretty bad but when I was a student I had a helluva lot of fun doing it. *shrugs*
