Who has done this?. I doubt there has been enough time to assess the structure of the dome properly and I'm quite sure the state is preoccupied with other matters.

There was an interview last night with the owner of the company that manages Both the Dome and the Convention center. In the interview he said "the Dome would have to come down. The roof was peeled back all over(the top layer and some of the skeleton. There was alot of water still inside as well."
He may have just been venting but that is what he said.

By "the dome", I wonder if he meant the 'dome (superdome), or the domed top of the superdome?

    Saints' Fielkow issues statement
    Fielkow source of off-the-record comments

    By Mike Triplett
    Staff writer

SAN ANTONIO - Arnold Fielkow, the Saints' executive vice president of administration, issued a statement to the Times-Picayune on Monday to explain the intent of off-the-record statements he made to the newspaper, as well as a handful of other media outlets on Saturday.

Fielkow's statements, which he said were made with "much personal frustration" following a meeting with the team's top executives earlier that day, expressed concern that team owner Tom Benson was leaning toward playing all of the Saints' home games in San Antonio this year.

Fielkow, who feels strongly that the team should play as many games as logistically possible in Baton Rouge, said that he now believes the organization will indeed attempt to play several games at LSU's Tiger Stadium, if possible.

He also said that it is the "collective hope of our organization that Saints will return to New Orleans as soon as possible."
Fielkow said it was personally important to him to explain his position and hopefully put this issue behind him and the team, so they can move forward.

"I personally have just a great passion for our community and would like Saints football to be there for a long time," said Fielkow, who is in charge of the team's business operations, a consuming task that could be spread between Louisiana and San Antonio, which the Saints have made their base of operations for the rest of the season.

Most of Fielkow's statements Saturday were either attributed to a "source inside the organization" or used as background information. He was specifically identified by Sen. Mike Michot, R-Lafayette, as having told the senator that Benson was leaning strongly toward moving the Saints permanently toward San Antonio.

I doubt that the building has any structural damage other than minor things. This is just an "opportunity" to build something new. It sucks because the state really should be focusing on other things rather than a stadium. Other things like the future of the city of NO. Just MO, of course.

and even if it did sustain damage, Im sure that it would be cheaper to fix than tear it down and rebuild. I think a third-party may end up buying it from the state and use it for whatever they need it for.

I can just see the ensuing battle...

Reconstuction engineers tasked with the rebuild projects will pronounce the Superdome suitable for renovation, but "hired experts" will say it must be demolished.

Benson and certain elements will be angling for the Feds to finance the new stadium construction.

Louisiana will get a black eye by appearing to take advantage of reconstruction funds, and not focusing on factors contributing to the disaster.

Deals will be cut amongst political groups to push this through, and much debate and time will be invested, diverting energies from meaningful infrastructure planning.

New Orleans, the ultimate American fiefdom, will escape Katrina with its reputation for lousy politics intact.

I think the only stadium in the world that could top this would be the Colosseum in Rome.. I mean comeon, people defecating everywhere, dieing where the lay, rapes, shootings, you want to take the kids to see a game there? I could only imagine the stinch would be enough to consider the dome totaled.
