What did I say? If I was trying to be negative, I could have said we would finish 113-119. I really do think the offense will improve. No need for the angry mob to grab their pitchforks just yet.
Do you believe that Quarterbacks add more to an offense than just passing statistics? Herb Tyler and Melvin Hill played behind the same OL. Hill had more experience, yet Tyler moved the team and Hill was a complete failure. I hope JJ leads us to the promiseland. With the added experience he has that opportunity.
I certainly do believe that QB has a big impact on the offense, besides passing statistics. Checking into or out of the right play, leadership, and making a D fear to attack the run game (which nobody was really afraid of last year). It wasn't my intent to say JJ is as good as MF, but more to show that, statistically, it's hard to poke holes in his game. Including - to my suprise - he really didn't seem to eat the ball that much on third down passing situations (at least compared to MF), which was certainly my perception from last year. The point, really, is that JJ had some decent stats last year and the run game was simply dreadful. We also didn't have as good of a D last year as we did in 2007. So there's hope. Let's get a better run game this year - which I think will happen - and maybe JJ is a better QB than last year left me thinking he was, especially with a year under his belt.
