I agree, I just hope the snowball effect doesn't start bouldering through the entire history book. You're correct, at some point everyone has to move forward. But there are those that will continue to try to claim this and that and the other is offensive so it has to go away. This all kind of ties into the PC thread about the college kids and professors as well.

Actually, I saw the picture earlier and felt strongly enough to take the time to send the White House an email.

In it I congratulated the President for a very successful week or ten days. I pointed out that I am all for gay rights, but a lot of people in this country are not, based on deep felt religious reasons. I don't agree with their religious view point, but they are not the haters. They just believe very strongly in what they believe. I pointed out to the President that he was still their president too, and a trait of a real leader and champion was to be magnanimous in victory. The light show was anything but that, and that I thought he had demonstrated, again, his tendency to be the president of some of the people and not all of the people. I ended by saying that I really felt he was better than that.

I am sure he will never see my email, and equally sure no one of any import will see it either, but I felt it was the right thing to do.

That is the second benefit of teaching. The first, if you miss a day without pay, you don't miss much, now second, if the tax man comes at me, there is not much to come after. Just call me Forrest, lemonade from lemons!

That's a really good post, I can't say I've ever thought of it like that.
