I don't think les really wanted the play to go anywhere and mett checking out to a play that almost scored went aginst what miles wanted to do. I think miles wanted to run straight ahead and burn the clock up and let time expire before lsu scored again. Mett brought the ball to the goal line. Miles didn't want to score again so he knelt it. Mett was playing to score, miles didn't want to score. Mett did nothing wrong, he was just playing ball. Miles had diffrent intentions. The only way to keep mett from scoring was to have him kneel it.
If we just ran up the middle and scored again no body would be talking. Gotta love Les he keeps it intresting and LSU in the conversation!!!!:miles:
FWIW - the ESPN talking heads today all agreed it was a positive and classy thing for Les to do. They even mentioned the word, "Compassionate." (Les will get Coach of the Year BTW)
A.J. Adande said it was insulting, not only to Ole Miss but to the LSU reserves getting some rare playing time who might want to score a rare TD and show what they could do in a game. But he wasn't taking a shot at Miles, just saying play the game.
Thank you....I agree....If you run three or four straight dives, and OM can't stop them......too bad. LM was left in a position of, do we go for it four times from the one yard line, or take knees....Either one, was a hard choice for him. Nutt totally understood and was not pissed. LM was left with a choice of running up the score or the embarressing kneels...In my mind...he did the best he could...........short of telling his guys to FUMBLE...How would that look if it ever got out? As far as I'm concerned..............Miles is one hell of guy.
You ever see these news items that come out from time to time about a youth football coach who hangs 100 on a team? That's what this game was like playing against Ole Miss, and that's not an exaggeration. It's a no-win PR situation. If Mett scores on that bootleg, or we punch it on the next play, it's running up the score. Les takes a knee 4 times, and it's insulting and condescending.
