I hate USC as much as anyone, but I'm not gonna be ignorant to the fact that the program is arguably the best in the country right now. It's not smoke and mirrors.
Wow! I never said the teams from other conferences were "no good." I simply hate the cake walk schedules. I am also not saying LSU should be any higher ranked than they are. I simply want to see the teams in question play a few tough teams...top 15, top 10, top 5. I also think LSU would be better off with Ohio State's schedule. I love college football in general, not just the tigers. I like to see quality teams play. If you can play ten cupcakes and two top tier and stay on top where you started...with no regard for a team with a loss that has played and beaten quality opponents, then we may continue to have the current scenario indefinitely.
I guess I just don't follow the logic, probably never will. Toughest schedules, whether you want to rank them solely on past opponents... or whether you want to look at them combining records of teams played and current records of teams you have yet to play... are listed weekly at ncaa.org. On records to date, Florida is shown with the second toughest schedule in the country (the teams they've played are a combined 29-13)... Kentucky has played the third toughest ... so I think the SEC is being given their due. Auburn is also up there. It also shows SoCal as playing the 5th toughest (24-12), remember they played Arkansas and Nebraska. It also shows Michigan with the 6th toughest (33-17) and tOSU with the 8th toughest (32-17). http://web1.ncaa.org/d1mfb/2006/Internet/toughest schedule/ia_9games_past.pdf For example, Penn State has lost to ND, Michigan and Ohio State and they are now "a far worse team" than, say, Arkansas, who lost to USC and has beaten, who, Bama and Auburn. By the same logic, LSU lost @ Auburn and @ Florida, but you and I both know they could beat many of the teams ranked ahead of them. So why is your logic valid when applied to the SEC, but invalid when applied to the Big Ten?
You're not making any sense. OSU has played at texas and iowa, UM won at ND(whooped them too) at psu and iowa. USC beat arky and has oregon, cal and nd left. Those teams can't control how good their conference opponents will be, but what they can control is their OOC schedule and they all have tough ones. OSU always schedules tough games, there's no doubt about that. I think they have a home and home with USC in a couple years too. Playing @ two top 5 ranked teams is not very common especially in only the first half of the season. Don't blame the other teams for not having played on the road vs two top 5 teams so far. Can you name anyone else that has??
You make good points Hawker but that also has to do with the rankings at the beginning of the year. Great example is Notre Dame last year. Obviously a perrinial "hype" machine, they were able to get into the bcs game with 2 losses and finish the season without beating a single team that was in the top 25. Not saying it matters technically but I think we'd both agree Arkensas first game of the year with Mitch Mustang not even playing till the fourth quarter for his first start with Mcfadden not able to play is a WHOLE nother team then Arkensas getting it together with Mcfadden full strength and Mitch with some game experience against Auburn etc. Not justifying anything I'm just saying from human perspectives I see where tigerpub is coming from cause it's frustrating sometimes when the number don't tell on paper the entire story. Speaking of the capitol one, ya'll have incredible fans at Iowa man I member the numbers at the game and then speaking to some of them on the way back in 2004. They are def passionate like us. Prob would be tough to ever happen but would def be a cool home and away sometime in the future. LSU!
I hear ya...Here's what's frustrating... http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2636271 First, Drew Tate is at some farm with his O-Line earlier this year, throwing bales of hay in a strength contest (like he thought he could win)... pulls an abdominal muscle, has to miss the Syracuse game, can't even get a full breath of air during the tOSU game... then ruptures some tendons in his hand against Michigan, now he's out for two to four weeks. We've had two games... two... where our starting OLine have all played together... four games where our starters on the DLine have been intact. Our starting receiver hasn't played a down this year. We're starting a true freshman... and he's missed three games. Albert Young, last year's leading rusher in the Big Ten has been hurt all year and sees mostly limited time in games. I don't think he has 200 yards total this season. We sat seven injured starters for the Indiana game, so they might be good to go for Michigan.... hell, we found a way to lose both friggin' games. My point.... hell, I can't remember now, I'm so pissed... Oh, yeah... Yes, I agree Arkansas would have played USC better with McFadden in there healthy... we're now the experts on healthy.
I feel your pain Hawker....you guys had much higher aspirations coming into this season A damn bale of hay....crap What happens on an Iowa farm.........
