That is one way to think about it, but the computers DO NOT in any way account for the Coaches and AP polls. The computers are in place for this very reason, they wanted an "unbiased" (yeah right) ranking. Problem is the computers have their own stupid reasoning. Like Ohio State squeeking by Penn State (2-7) by one point being worth as much as LSU stoming Mississippi State (2-6) 41-6. That's what happens when you take out Margin of Victory from the computer rankings.
The BCS does use the AP and coaches poll rankings in their formula. Example: A team ranked AP poll #6 and Coaches Poll # 8 gets 7 pts.((6+8)/2). So, if we beat a ranked team(Ole Miss on a roll and climbing in the polls), the probability of LSU climbing in the polls is better, which translates to a lower poll score and a lower BSC overall score.
The Margin of Victory was taken out to keep team from running up the score on weak teams like ULM, Arizona, etc.. I am thinking it may need to come back but cap it at a certain point. Make it stop after 21 or 28 points. Or maybe impliment a Margin of Loss to eliminate one loss teams. If a one loss team is blown out then it should be worse than a tough 1 or 3 point loss.
Re: News flash... Trouble is teams like Marshall back out at the last second, or even worse Virginia Tech gets their game and screws us over. The BCS needs a component to penalize any team that backs out of a game less than 18 months in advance.
I am aware that the BCS uses the AP and coaches poll, but you said "Well actually the computer does consider who's "rolling" when that team is ranks higher in the polls(AP or coaches) because of recent wins. " My statement was that the computers don't factor the Coaches and AP poll. The computers are only one component of the BCS, but they alone can screw you out of the title game (as shown by LSU right now).
Excellent note! I've read where a few people actually want Auburn to win--citing that if they win, it helps our SOS and that's NOT the way to look at it. Just like you said, FightinTiger, "we cannot get to the SECCG w/o beating Ole Miss", and pending that we do, we would win based on head-to-head advantage. I don't want a 3-way tie for 1st in the West like it is shaping up in the East.
