Time brings about changes and we shall see more juniors and third-year sophomores like Wing leaving early for the NFL. Numbers are up all over.

Coaches like Chavis have long said that automatically redshirting freshmen is a dying practice because if they were recruiting properly, those players aren't going to play four years anyway.

Leaving early is not the only change going on. LSU also has a record 8 recruits already enrolled for the spring semester who will be able to practice early with the team. We shall see more of this as well.

True, Brockers left as a third-yr Soph. Pro teams know when a player is ready, its their job to know.

i'll be a bit surprised if this becomes the norm. isnt time valuable for physical maturity, knowledge and execution? historically, there have always been freaks out there, but if it becomes commonplace, then they are not freaks. this will suck. my pleasure from following lsu football will significantly decrease. combined with the desire for lsu to actually be used as a university, i will long for a developmental league.

In all honesty, it used to be that you didn't see even a high-sought-after recruit until his RS Soph year, two years after he stepped on campus. Now we're seeing them only a few months after they get here. Either way, we only get to see them for two or three years. Same difference. At least this way, recruiting is more exciting because you can expect to see these guys before you forget their names!

Your point of them staying long enough to graduate is valid, though. Although some, like Minter, find a way to graduate early, it's not the norm. However, in the end, it's their decision. They can always come back and finish their kinesiology degrees after they blow their knees out.

its not really their decision. they cannot major in whatever they want or take whatever classes they want. football is most important.

im against the athlete-first, student-second (if its that high) set up of the system. but thats for a different thread.
