THat was another thing that the officials screwed up. Even if the call was only against Florida, the clock was supposed to be wound as soon as the ball was ready for play. That means that another 20-25 seconds would have been run off leaving Tennessee only about 30-40 seconds with no timeouts to move the ball into FG range. So it was a double whammy of officiating mistakes against Florida.
yes I watch more football than most coaches probably and no, I dont agree that the refs wait for a retaliation. i will never buy that. They almost always see the retaliation first...once they see a group where attention is being drawn to, the pissed off player happens to respond and get flagged. No way a ref says ok he was hit, lets see if he can control himself. even refs are above that. minus one. thats why everyone who watched the game is reacting this way. it was very noticeable.
This is actually the thing that makes this call so wrong (bad). Not running the clock once the ball was set was a total bone headed move that did cost FL the game. We could debate the flag all day, but this one mistake that should not have happened.
if you notice...in most games there are blatant occurrences when a player runs out of bounds or an incomplete pass and the clock just ticks on down. More often than you'd think. from the first quarter til the 4th. Not sure what those operators are doing.
This is a problem on every level of football (pop warner to nfl) . . . and I don't think it will ever change as long as the home team uses their own time keeper. Granted, one of the officials on the field does control the "real" time clock and they will add seconds if a mistake is blatant, but for the most part it is just another factor in the home field advantage. In the AU game they added a few seconds for us in the closing seconds of the game (something like 3 seconds, from 13 to 16), when the hometown clock keeper ran down the clock after it should have stopped. But, the ref did correct it.
yep totally forgot about that but definitely noticed it. For some reason I always watch the clock throughout the game. Its some hangup I guess but yeah was 13 seconds going to the commercial then it was 16 after the break. not like it mattered in the end but typical nonetheless.
No ****! I almost asked my boss for a butter knife so I could slice my wrist after reading this thread. However, I thought I'd commit suicide by jumping off the building but realized I was on the first floor. I will say one thing in defense of the Tennessee player. He barely slapped the UF guy. The Florida player retaliated with a "Rick James bitch slap."
yeah kinda funny. check the times. 5 people responding at the same time. you'd think it was the LSU game.
