Texas Tech hires A&M OC as Head Coach

The TT fans I know are beyond excited about the hire. It's probably a good thing for them to hire a TT guy. I'm sure that Lubbock is not for everyone, but I've never met a TT alum/student who didn't love that school.
  2. TT fans would be well-served to temper the excitement a bit in favor of cautious optimism. It takes a hell of a lot more to make a great HC than it does to make a great OC. WVU fans are learning that right now. KK is very young, and is entering a league with a lot of seasoned HCs. Seems like their expectations might be putting a little too much pressure on him from the get-go.

This is true, but I guess they are simply thrilled to have one of their own as head coach. They never did accept Tuberville.
  4. Yeah, but the whole "having one of your own" thing is highly over-rated. I guess it's nice if one of your own can come in and be a winner, ala Spurrier, but there really is no correlation there & it can paralyze programs. Just ask Mike Shula.

I completely agree, although Bama was once very partial to "Bear's boys," as they would call them. They even embraced Stallings, though he'd been a player @ A & M for Bear.

Kingsbury is very young and relatively inexperienced (completely inexperienced as a head coach). It'll be fun to watch how or whether he develops.

Texas Tech made 33-year-old Kingsbury the youngest head coach at a BCS school

There’s only one head coach in Division I
younger than Kingsbury — Toledo’s Matt
Campbell, by less than four months

Tech Tech Chancellor Kent Hance on Tuberville out/Kingsbury in:

"What happened last Saturday was a blessing in disguise, and I feel better about Texas Tech football than I’ve ever felt.”

"it’s a great day for Texas Tech,” Hance said. "I could not be happier."

    -Congrats to coach Kliff
    Kingsbury,Never had a coach quite
like him. He taught me alot!

    - When I heard the news, the first thing
that ran through my head was "Ain't
nothin more important than the Mula!"

    - Never get to comfortable or take
    anything for granted.

    - As soon as you get comfortable,
    things start going wrong.
