These idiots are still missing the boat. I dont see a problem with text messaging but the problem is contact abuse during the no contact periods. This does nothing to address that. Dumb asses.

This is nuts! The rule is being considered because athletes are being haried? In the Ivy League? Consider this comment from the article:

"It's intruding on their lives and creating inappropriate relationships with coaches," said former Arizona women's basketball player Anna Chappell, who heads the NCAA's Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. "If you don't stop it now, what roads are you going to have to cross later on?"
Her remarks to the panel were reported by the in-house NCAA News

I'm sorry but why in hell is this person reporting to the panel? This is a Division 1 college football issue. Faxes? Please.

Here's a roster for the Div 1 Directors who will next be voting on the issue. Is this really the group that should be making such a decision? You have to select Board of Directors and then Roster.

    Told ya!

I knew this was going to happen. The insane amount of text messaging and the loophole of texting during the dead periods was not going to go unchecked. I think there should definitely be a ban on texting of any kind during the dead periods but not sure they didnt take it too far by banning all texting. I suspect they may revise this rule again next year but this really puts a cramp on the texting kings like Urban Meyer and his staff.

NCAA approves ban on recruiting by text messages

INDIANAPOLIS -- College coaches will have to recruit the old-fashioned way next year.

The NCAA's board of directors approved a ban Thursday to eliminate all text messages from coaches to recruits beginning in August.

Coaches really did this to themselves... They took something that was a great way to communicate with kids and drove it into the ground. One parent said their kid woke up with 50+ text messages a morning. That's a lot of cash if you don't have the right plan.

Until txt messages are free there should be a total ban and even then I don't know how I feel about coaches talking to kids without their parents or HS coaches present.

I don't quite understand the baseball rules included in this new provision.
