I was sitting in the South endzone for that one and boy was I glad they missed that FG. I had brought my father-in-law (His first game).
LSUSPORTS.net says Ark took over at the 27. I was 9 yds off, big deal. Also says Ark took over with 2:04 remaining which is a lot more than the "imaginary" minute left that was posted earlier. Proves my point, Ark had plenty of time left with that offense. Didn't need to go in Dick mode only.
Just jabbing at you two guys arguing over a few yards. I agree I thought with that much time Mcfadden would at least get a draw or two with LSU looking pass. It's not like it took him a whole lot of time to cover that 80yds and with over 2 minutes left and the clock stopping after every first down no way I thought he wouldn't get a touch. I bet if you asked them it caught the LSU coaching staff by suprise too.
It was at the 27. But as i was watching the game, i was just hoping they don't give it to D-Mac. We haven't stop him all day. What a fun, exciting game this was! Rose Bowl, here we come (or those lucky or rich enough to get a ticket)
Over 2 minutes remaining. With the way LSU had little chance at stopping the run, it was very conceivable that Arkansas could have run the ball (trick plays, wildcat, pussycat, dicknutt, etc) all the way down the field until they scored. The game clock was not nearly as much of an issue as most think. Every first down would have afforded them a stoppage of the clock. And if you remember, the punt was horrible and they were only 73 yards away. I thought the play calling was truly braindead. This QB couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. To ask Andy Dick to win the game passing the ball was an utterly futile attempt. Arkansas fans are rightfully pissed at this Nutt.
Nutt was definitely using his Dick way too much and came up dry. Sounds like a formula for blue balls.
I agree completely. Two very questionable things that Nutt did, IMHO. First, he doesn't put the ball in McFadden's hands on that 4th and 3 you are talking about. Dick takes a sack, which essentially amounts to a turnover of sorts, or at least a huge stop. Incredible. Next, Arkansas chooses to throw it all four downs on their last possession. They had over 2 minutes when they took possession. Yeah, they had a mint to go, but McFadden and Jones had proven several times over that they could rip right through our run D. I think you put the ball in McFadden's hands on at least the first down if not the second. You can always spike the ball if necessary to stop the clock. I think it was poor coaching in the latter part of the 4th quarter that really helped do Arkansas in, but LSU also did what they needed to do to win the game.
Nutt should have pulled out his Dick, no doubt about it. His Dick was not hard enough to get them a win playing with, I mean by, himself.
Bottom line, Dick tried to Nutt all over the field on that last drive. Luckily he misfired his bullets and ultimately didn't impregnate LSU's chances for being ousted from BCS bowl contention.
