Impossible, there will neve be another Bowden or Paterno ever. Coaches dont stick around long enough, and no coach can keep his job for that many years unless they are able to compete for the SEC or NC championship every year
Hmmmm... interesting comments here. I'd say I spoke too quickly in my OP, but I don't really think so. I've been registered here for quite a while and I've generally enjoyed the threads. To those who have some doubts about Bo, I suspect people could say that about anyone these days. No one could say for sure that Tom Osborne, with a miacle rejuvenation that turned him 30 again knowing everything he knows now, would necessarily be best coach for Nebraska in 2008. The game's changed since he last coached. What I do know is, given the state the Nebraska program was in as recently as a month ago, the major pieces have been set in place, and I think most Husker fans are satisfied with the direction things have been heading. There's a lot still to be done, but they've done about as much as they could to this point. And, as is the case with everything, only time will tell if it all pans out. I still wish you the best of hunting. Buck the _uckeyes! All the best, X
The game has changed considerably since Nebraska was in the Big 8 and ran 90% of the time. The Cornhuskers have always had those big corn-fed lineman but have needed to recruit out of state for the skill players. In the past they only needed to secure a few of these players. Now they need quite a few so they'll have to step up their efforts. Nebraska football is THE sport in the entire state so it's not difficult to keep local talent home. Pellini will need to convince out of state talent to head to Lincoln...which isn't the easiest place to sell. The old days of winning the Big 8 and heading to the Orange Bowl are over. In order to win the Big 12 North, beat Oklahoma or Texas in the Championship, and then win the BCS will take better talent than they've had the past decade. Nebraska is currently 33rd in Rivals recruiting rankings. They have a few quality OL prospects but not many skill players yet. If the rumors that Pellini doesn't like to recruit are true, then he may not have the success the Cornhusker fans demand. I don't think the Nebraska fans will have much patience...even with Pellini. They demand a winner and won't have much else to keep them occupied (sports wise) until next season. Hopefully we'll make it back to Omaha for the CWS so we can talk football with the Husker fans. Hang in there X...Pellini is better than Callahan.
Thats true, but age takes its toll on all of us. Trouble is some of these guys don't know when to say quit. FSU's been in the toilet the last few years and now they're "really" in it...Was BB behind it? He sure as hell had to know something was amiss? If not, then dude is way beyond his years and he should hang it up. FSU may be looking down the barrel of NCAA probation. Thats a hell of a thing to leave hanging on a school. The kids that weren't even involved are going to have to deal with it too. Thats not fair to them or the school. BB can hang it up next year and its all over for him. But everyone else is going to have to pay the piper for his and his staffs screwups. Yea, I'd say he was way past his prime, and the sad thing is it tarnishes all their achievements up to now. That kind of situation isn't fair for any school in the country. If this is what coaching in your 60s and beyond leads to, we don't want any at LSU thanks. :tigereye::tigereye::tigereye::tigereye::tigereye:
