Everybody will probably agree that Alex Lange won't be the starter for regional Game 1 vs Texas Southern but how will CPM play it? TXS is a bad baseball team and while baseball is a funny game where anything can happen, LSU should win no matter who starts. He could start Gilbert or Peterson. The forecast is for a high percentage chance of thunderstorms through the weekend. It would be really bad if Lange pitched 3 or 4 innings of the second game and then there was an extended rain delay. I would start Peterson in the first game and save Gilbert for in case we need a pitcher to take over for Lange following a delay.
If Hess has to pitch 4 or 5 innings he is lost for game 3 and a possible game 4. Hess is the setup man for Newman. You have to be prepared if the weather throws a monkey wrench into your rotation.
Normally I would too but with the weather forecast and the fact that Texas Southern would probably be the 64th seed if all the teams were seeded we should win even if Bain or Reynolds started. I wouldn't go so far as to take that chance just in case a TSU pitcher has the game of his life and ours needs to keep runs off the scoreboard but i would start Peterson.
If the Tigers need any bulletin board material to get pumped up for Texas Southern in an interview the TSU coach kept referring to LSU coach Mariana
